Assisted Living Medication Technician

The Medication Tech is responsible for maintaining the safe and secure delivery of medications and health related items to the residents within the Community during the direction and supervision of the Resident Services Director or other licensed staff. The Medication Tech assists in developing, coordinating and performing the tasks on the service plan according to the resident's preferences and abilities.Additionally, the Medication Tech serves as shift leader providing assistance, guidance, and monitoring to the Resident Assistant on the same shift.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED); andOne (1) to three (3) years related experience and training; orEquivalent combination of education and experience REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES OR REGISTRATIONS Certification is not required in those States that allow for nurse delegation for medication (California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon and Washington), though maintaining State certification as a CMA (Certified Medication Tech) may be considered as part of the employee’s experienceAbility to pass criminal background check and drug testCPR and First Aid certifiedFood Handlers Card ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Orders, stores and assists with medications according to Community and regulatory policy and procedure, and current physician ordersAdminister routine non-injectable, oral, rectal, or topical medications, following accepted practices, a as ordered by the physicianMaintain accurate medication and treatment recordsRecord medications or treatments administered or omitted on the resident’s clinical record sheetRecord reasons a medication was omitted or if a PRN medication was givenRecord narcotics administered or received on the appropriate controlled drug count sheetPromptly report any medication errors made or noted. Complete appropriate formsMaintains service plans and may participate in Service Plan reviews when deemed appropriate by Health Services DirectorReceives reports from the previous shift Resident Assistants and Medication Tech(s)Reads the Communication Log and shower schedule for information and changes at the beginning of each dayDocuments in the Communication Log and Progress notes, as appropriate throughout the dayAssists residents with activities of daily living, environmental orientation, vital signs, First Aid wound care, and communication with outside healthcare professionalsDemonstrates knowledge of infection control and universal precautionsDocuments care given adhering to Community policies and proceduresMaintains clean, neat, comfortable, safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors. Assures doors are alarmed during scheduled timesReports deficiencies observed in resident apartments, clothing, and linen to the Resident Services Director or Executive DirectorCompletes an Incident Report form as needed for any unusual occurrence, whether with a resident or coworkerObserves and communicates any changes in resident physical or mental status as directedIs thoroughly familiar with fire, missing persons and other emergency procedures, follows facility policy and procedures detailed in fire and disaster plansAvoids loss, breakage, and waste of supplies and equipment. And maintains a neat and orderly Medication RoomWears name tag at all timesAssists residents moving in or out as directedMaintains current resident record for each resident including but not limited to, obtaining current physician orders, clarifying orders, and alert and monthly chartingOversees and monitors floor staff as acting supervisor in the absence of Resident Services Director or Licensed Nurse EOE
