Position Type: Student Support Services/ESOL Aide Date Posted: 8/14/2025 Location: Hardeeville Junior/Senior High School Job Description Job Title: ESOL Aide FLSA Status: Exempt Days of Work: 190 Provide instructional support to English Language Learners within the classroom setting, assist students and reinforce concepts taught by the classroom teacher, often using the students' native language to clarify. Assist with various tasks such as preparing materials, communicating with parents, and supporting the ESOL teacher. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES: ( Other duties may be assigned) Instructional Support: Reinforce English language skills and concepts taught by the teacher. Work with individual students or small groups to improve language proficiency. Use native language to clarify concepts for ELLs, if needed. Help students with reading, vocabulary, and other language skills. Classroom Support: Prepare materials, such as flashcards and vocabulary lists, for lessons. Assist with lesson planning and preplanning sessions. Help manage classroom activities, including small group work and projects. Participate in the implementation of computerized software instruction. Student Support: Build students' self-esteem and help them deal with stress. Provide guidance and support to students, especially those new to the country. Escort and supervise students during various activities. Assist with testing, placement, and registration of ESOL students. Communication and Collaboration: Communicate with parents, often through interpretation or translation, about student progress and needs. Collaborate with teachers, other support staff, and administrators. Help maintain a positive and inclusive school climate for all students. Other Duties: Assist with data collection and record-keeping. Follow school and class rules to teach students proper behavior. May assist with special projects or assignments. May assist with the monitoring of former ELLs. Essential Skills: Proficiency in English and, ideally, one or more other languages spoken by students. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds. Patience, empathy, and the ability to motivate students. Organizational and time management skills. Knowledge of language acquisition and effective teaching strategies.
