Position Type: Security Guard/Security Guard Date Posted: 1/27/2026 Location: Hamden High School Date Available: TBD Closing Date: Until Filled Job Title: Security Guard - Full-Time 10-Month Employee Qualifications: High school diploma. Must hold current Connecticut Guard Card Experience in providing security services preferred. Knowledge of public schools and their operations desired. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral and diagrammatic or schedule form. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to deal effectively with students and the public. Ability to resolve conflict. Ability to organize and maintain records. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent or the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reports to: Building Principal Job Goal: To provide for the security and protection of all students, staff and property. To assist in the day-to-day operations of the school to which the employee is assigned. Essential Performance Responsibilities: Attends regularly and is punctual. Interacts effectively with students and staff. Plans and organizes work according to school schedule and unit procedures. Patrols building and grounds to prevent theft, vandalism and illegal entry. Conducts patrol inspection of doors, windows and gates to determine that they are secure. Confronts unauthorized persons for questioning and either routes or detains them. Provides a liaison with the local police and emergency services. Consults with the principal concerning criminal matters and procedures. Advises the principal of matters of security and discipline. Documents all incidents involving serious disciplinary action. Participates in disciplinary hearings. Utilizes conflict resolution techniques in dealing with student/staff situations. Assumes and performs other duties as requested by superintendent, supervisor or designee. Job Responsibility Requirements: All work is to be conducted in compliance with applicable employer, state, local and federal safety and environmental requirements. Incidental Duties: Maintains work area as a neat, pleasant work environment. Maintains records of visitors on an ongoing basis. Provides assistance to principal in various school activities where security may be a factor. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, and talk or hear. The employee uses repetitive motions in operating office equipment, including keyboards, fax machines and copiers. The employee is regularly required to walk throughout the building. The employee with also be required to stand; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee may be required to lift, push and/or move in excess of 50 pounds. The employee must be able to hear clearly (correctable to within normal limits) to discuss intent of visitors or receive responses from individuals. The employee needs to be able to tell where a sound is coming from in a noisy environment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision correctable to 20/20, distance vision, depth perception and peripheral vision. Adaptive technology may be used. There is stress in interacting with students, faculty or the public and in meeting the diverse components of the position. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud and is acceptable to this particular environment.
