HOURS & SHIFT REQUIREMENTS:Full time position, 40 hours weekly. Mon-Fri, 8:00 - 5 GENERAL SUMMARY The Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant is a non-professional staff member who performs duties to obtain clinical information/data, clinical CLIA waved lab testing, and testing on medical equipment, necessary for the medical office visit. This assistance is under supervision of the Registered Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse, and the Physician/APN/PA. GIBSON AREA HOSPITAL & HEALTH SERVICES MISSION STATEMENT To provide personalized, professional healthcare services to the residents of the Communities we serve. PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Performs chart prep for all providers. 2. Greets patients appropriately and escorts patients to exam rooms; performs, documents and reports vital signs and records height and weight accurately and in a timely manner. 3. Documents social/family/medical history, current complaint(s) with review of systems accurately. 4. Working knowledge of computer applications. 5. Answers phone calls, documents patient message, and forwards information to Physician, Nurse, NP, PA. Does not provide medical advice or recommend treatment. 6. Schedules referrals by phone to area physician offices and hospitals for tests and consults. 7. Assists with scheduling tests and procedures as ordered, as well as scheduling clinic appointments. 8. Maintains and restocks exam rooms with needed supplies. 9. Monitors supplies, except medications, for outdating and disposes as needed. 10. Orders supplies. 11. Maintains confidentiality of all patient information. 12. Follows Infection Control fundamentals r/t: Standard Precautions, good hand washing, disposal of bio hazardous materials, aseptic technique, disinfection of instruments/equipment, and high-level disinfection process for scopes. 13. Adheres to policies and procedures, federal/state/local requirements and regulatory bodies. 14. Ability to handle a busy, fast-paced clinic that can be stressful at times. 15. Maintains excellent customer service with patients and staff at all times. Is aware and accountable of one's actions. 16. Demonstrates self-directed learning and participation of continuing education to meet own development needs. 17. Demonstrates knowledge of patient safety, patient rights, and patient care. 18. Demonstrates effective communication skills and uses chain of command appropriately. 19. Able to cross-train within clinic and balance both workloads efficiently and effectively. 20. Travel to satellite clinics as needed. 21. Any other duties as assigned. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 1. Heavy level of physical effort to lift patients and transfer patients to chair to bed. 2. Physical strength to perform the following lifting demands: • Floor to waist 40 pounds • 14" to waist 50 pounds • Waist to shoulder 20 pounds • Shoulder to overhead 10 pounds • Carry 40 pounds for 30 feet • Push 40 pounds/force for 30 feet • Pull 40 pounds/force for 30 feet • Patient transfer with gait belt • Ability to push patient in wheelchair 3. Being on feet all day. 4. Works closely with providers, nurses, and receptionist staff. Communicates with staff members of other units and departments. Communicates with and assists in provision of direct care to patients and their families REPORTING RELATIONSHIP Reports to Office Manager EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED 1. Must be competencied by designee for all medical equipment testing and oriented by RN/LPN according to any and all job skills required to perform said duties, in the clinic environment. 2. Current BLS certification or will achieve within six months of hire. 3. Must be able to follow directions and have a working knowledge of computer applications. 4. If a CNA, maintains current licensure and meets any and all regulations required of CMS and IDPH. 5. Must be familiar with CPT and ICD codes, either through education or experience as demonstrated by past performance. 6. Knowledge of medical terminology and the insurance industry. 7. Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type correspondence. INFECTION EXPOSURE RISK LEVEL Category 1 - Maximal Risk - this job exposes you to potential blood, body fluids and tissues on a routine basis. It is recommended that you get the Hepatitis B vaccine. WORKING CONDITIONS 1. Works in patient care areas where there are few discomforts due to dust, dirt, noise, and the like. 2. Works with patients and may be exposed to contagious diseases or infectious materials but potential for personal harm and injury is limited when proper safety and health precautions and equipment are used.
