Occupational Therapist

HARLANDALE INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB TITLE: Occupational Therapist REPORT TO: Special Education Director Status: ExemptJOB DESCRIPTION The Occupational Therapist, under the direction of the Special Education Director, shall provide occupational therapy services to students receiving special education services. Services will include student evaluation to determine necessity for occupational therapy services and the provision of comprehensive services that are educationally related. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Occupational Therapy Degree from an accredited school/university Current Texas state license as an Occupational Therapist Experience includes working in a school/academic setting WORKING CONDITIONS:Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures and data; coordinate district functions, to use computers and maintain emotional control under stress. Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job. Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Ability to lift and carry (equipment and person) May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities Stooping, kneeling, crouching frequent standing on a daily basis Reaching, pulling and pushing to manage equipment Repetitive hand motions Regular District-wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned; ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including the following as well as other duties that may be assigned.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide occupational therapy services to HISD students using the District's school-based practice model. Maintain appropriate and required documentation of services to students. Provide required supervision of the Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) and other program personnel. Develop and provide inservice/training to HISD staff and families, as requested. Supervise occupational therapy students and affiliates, as assigned. Maintain appropriate documentation to enable the District to meet Federal, State, and local funding requirements, as well as all other documentation that may be requested by the District from time to time. Maintain all required State licenses as may be required for the performance of his or her duties under this contract. District-wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned requiring personal vehicle and valid driver's license. May be required to lift and transfer students and assist with positioning students with physical disabilities. May be required to assist and train staff in feeding students with physical disabilities. Perform other duties as assigned. Other: Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Special Education.
