Clinical Lead Medical AssistantLocation: Boone, North Carolina | Ambulatory Clinic | Non-Exempt Why You'll Love Working Here As a Clinical Lead Medical Assistant at UNC Health Appalachian, you'll combine hands-on clinical care with frontline leadership in a dynamic ambulatory setting. This role plays a key part in ensuring efficient clinic operations, supporting providers, and delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. You'll lead and mentor a team of medical assistants while maintaining active clinical responsibilities-creating a collaborative, professional, and supportive environment focused on service excellence and continuous improvement. What You'll Do as a Clinical Lead Medical Assistant Leadership & Supervision Provide daily leadership and supervision to the medical assistant team. Coordinate staff scheduling, task delegation, and workflow optimization. Support performance management and foster a positive team culture. Promote professionalism, accountability, and collaboration. Clinical Support Perform medical assistant duties including rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, and preparing patients for examinations. Assist providers with minor procedures and clinical tasks. Ensure high standards of patient care and safety. Training & Development Conduct onboarding and training for new medical assistants. Provide ongoing education and support to promote continuous learning. Encourage professional growth and skill development within the team. Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement Monitor compliance with clinic protocols, standards, and regulatory requirements. Conduct audits to ensure accurate and complete clinical documentation. Identify workflow improvement opportunities and participate in quality initiatives. Patient Experience & Collaboration Interact with patients compassionately and professionally. Serve as a liaison between patients and healthcare providers. Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to enhance care coordination. Inventory & Operational Support Oversee medical supply management and ensure adequate stock levels. Partner with administrative staff to maintain an organized, efficient clinical environment. Qualifications Minimum Education High School Diploma or GED required Associate's Degree in Medical Assisting or related field preferred Experience Previous experience in the medical field required, preferably in an ambulatory setting Leadership or supervisory experience preferred Licensure & Certifications Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required at time of hire Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association required at time of hire Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team Proficiency in core medical assistant clinical skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong organizational and time management abilities Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Commitment to patient-centered care and service excellence Physical Requirements Ability to move efficiently throughout the clinic environment Manual dexterity for clinical tasks and documentation Ability to lift and carry supplies as needed Extended standing during patient care activities Frequent computer use for documentation and administrative tasks Flexibility for occasional evening or weekend shifts Work Environment Primarily ambulatory clinic-based setting Regular interaction with patients, providers, and interdisciplinary staff Exposure to medical equipment and various patient care situations Handling of sensitive patient information requiring confidentiality Dynamic, fast-paced healthcare environment requiring adaptability Ready to build your nursing career in a place where compassion meets excellence?
