HERO (Health, Exercise and Recreation Outreach) Leader (1 position) Monday - Friday 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. HERO runs June 22-August 7 Mandatory Training Saturday, June 13 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interviews: Will schedule in-person interviews starting February 24th, as needed. Hourly Rate: $18.75 per hour Essential Duties: Under the direction of the Adaptive and Youth/Teen Manager and Program Coordinator, help plan, supervise, and lead daily games and activities for youth and teens in a variety of settings that include parks, camps, apartments, and special events. Duties include loading/unloading, organizing, set-up, take-down of program equipment; developing positive supportive relationships with other parks staff, participants, parents, and outreach site staff; recruitment of participants and distribution of program information; maintaining and performing related duties as required. Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age. Possess a valid CPR and Standard First Aid Card by start date. Must be able to commit to the entire 7 weeks of the program. Must be enthusiastic, energetic, reliable, trustworthy, and remain calm under pressure. Ability to be sensitive and responsive to the needs of all the participants. Ability to work as a member of a team and accomplish tasks with little direct supervision. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple distractions and competing priorities. Applicants are subject to a Sterling background check. Other requirements include three personal and/or work references. Preferred Qualifications: 1 year or more of experience working with children in recreation, teaching, or day camp environment. Knowledge of age appropriate athletic and social activities, sports, crafts, and other large group activities for children between 6-14 years old. Physical Requirements: Must be able to physically play and demonstrate active games, work with arts and crafts materials. Outdoor recreational environment subject to noise that varies from low to high, distractions, seasonal heat, adverse weather conditions and periodic interruptions. Exposure to extended periods of direct sunlight and/or cool and damp weather is possible. Strong stamina and ability to keep up with participants. In certain instances, temporary employees may be eligible for retirement benefits through the State of Washington's Department of Retirement Systems.
