Estimator - Supermarket Refrigeration

Snapshot / Role Overview We're seeking an Estimator in the Chicago metro area to review bid documents and prepare detailed estimates for supermarket refrigeration projects. Impact - Win profitable refrigeration projects through accurate and competitive estimates - Support business growth in the supermarket and retail refrigeration market - Enable successful project execution with thorough scope development - Build strong foundation for career advancement in commercial refrigeration Responsibilities - Review bid documents including plans, specifications, and addenda - Prepare itemized estimates using company software and databases - Perform material takeoffs for refrigeration equipment and piping - Collaborate with regional teams to develop bid strategies - Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for pricing and lead times - Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits - Analyze scope and identify potential risks or opportunities - Maintain estimate files and documentation for awarded projects Requirements Must-Haves - Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills - Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating software - Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications - Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities - Willingness to learn refrigeration systems and estimating best practices Nice-to-Haves - Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field - Previous experience in HVAC, plumbing, or mechanical estimating - Knowledge of commercial refrigeration equipment and systems - Experience with Bluebeam or similar takeoff software Compensation & Logistics Competitive salary depending on experience; benefits include health insurance, 401k matching, PTO, holidays, and professional development opportunities.
