About the Position: We are seeking a Senior Manager of Software Engineering to lead our engineering function and drive PlanOmatic's next phase of growth through AI-forward development practices. This leader will manage our engineering team, ensuring alignment, accountability, and quality across all initiatives. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role blends technical leadership, AI-native engineering practices, systems thinking, cross-functional partnership, and hands-on execution. While this is a team lead role, this individual will be executing and contributing directly to our codebase. Location: Denver-based candidates highly preferred, open to remote Reports to: CEO What this role entails: Engineering Leadership - Lead and develop a high-performing engineering team. Own sprint execution, roadmap delivery, and technical prioritization in partnership with Product and Leaders. Ensure strong communication, accountability, and performance standards across your team. Build and maintain scalable processes for the Engineering function that enable predictable support and delivery standards for the organization. Champion AI adoption across the team by standardizing on Claude Code, establishing AI-assisted development practices such as commit tagging and automated PR review, and measuring team velocity and AI adoption metrics. Hands-On Technical Partner - We're looking for someone who will actively contribute to the codebase and lead by example. While you're managing the engineering team, you'll also be a hands-on contributor - regularly producing and reviewing production-level code using Claude Code, leading architecture decisions through implementation, building and shipping AI-native features, and stepping in to solve complex technical challenges. You set the standard for AI-augmented development by using it daily for multi-file refactors, feature builds, and code review. AI Strategy & Implementation - Lead PlanOmatic's AI adoption across the engineering organization. Standardize the team on Claude Code as the baseline development tool and build shared practices that compound across the whole team and company. Establish a shared prompt library of PlanOmatic-specific templates, implement commit tagging conventions to track AI-assisted output, and drive AI sprint methodology to prove and improve team velocity. Identify and implement generative AI and LLM-powered opportunities across the platform - including operational automation, workflow optimization, client-facing product features, and internal analytics. Build a practical AI roadmap that connects faster shipping directly to revenue growth. Technical Architecture & Platform Evolution - Oversee system architecture decisions to ensure scalability, reliability, and security. Reduce technical debt while maintaining product momentum. Drive best practices in code quality, documentation, and DevOps. Ensure strong integration between internal tools and client systems. Product & Engineering Collaboration - Lead initiatives to bridge product and engineering using AI. Enable product managers with read-only codebase access via Claude so they can query the codebase for context without requiring engineering capacity. Drive a prototype-before-spec workflow where working prototypes replace static documents for faster alignment and fewer misunderstandings. Ensure tight alignment between product vision and engineering execution through AI-powered tickets with clearer acceptance criteria and pre-identified edge cases. Executive Partnership - Report directly to the CEO and act as the technical thought partner on engineering decisions. Translate complex technical concepts into business strategy for leadership. Connect operational improvements - faster cycle times, higher AI-assisted output - to business outcomes like revenue capture and client retention. What we're looking for: 8+ years in software engineering, with 3+ years leading engineering teams Demonstrated experience building with generative AI, including LLM-powered features, AI-assisted development workflows, and agentic AI coding tools Hands-on experience with Claude Code or similar agentic AI coding tools Track record of driving AI adoption and culture change within engineering teams Strong understanding of modern software architecture (cloud-native systems, APIs, microservices) High ownership mentality Strong communicator across technical and non-technical audiences Strategic thinker who also enjoys rolling up their sleeves Interview Process 30-minute call with Head of People 1-hour interview with CEO 30-min interviews with Leadership Team Final decisions & offer stage Compensation The starting salary range for this position is $160,000 - $205,000, with bonus potential. Final offer amounts are commensurate with prior experience, leveling, your specific skill set and may vary from the amount above.
