Salary: $16.49 - $20.84 Hourly Location : Clermont, FL Job Type: Seasonal Job Number: 01269 Department: Parks & Recreation Division: Parks Opening Date: 01/06/2026 Closing Date: Continuous General Description The essential function of this position includes lifeguarding at the Clermont Arts & Recreation Center pool. Lifeguards will be Red Cross and CPR certified and will provide a safe environment for swimmers. They will be proactive and timely in response to emergencies and enforces related City and State rules and regulations. The position will work under general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator. This position is non-exempt. Fair Labor Standards Act overtime provisions will apply. Please note that this is a part-time/temporary/seasonal position that is not eligible for benefits and veteran's preference does not apply Primary DutiesResponds to emergencies according to safety policy and procedures. Monitors swimming activities and ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed. Warns swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces pool regulations and water safety policies. Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary. Completes all paperwork and documentation including incident reports. Evaluates conditions for safety and initiates aquatics emergency action plan as required. Inspects pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable. Assists in cleaning the pool and related facilities and equipment, assists with chlorine residual water tests, and with records and charts of water tests and records of accidents, and adds chemicals to pool water as directed. Wears city issued uniform during assigned shifts. May operate and carry a department handheld radio. Follows daily schedules and assigned rotations. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications No educational requirement. One year (1) of lifeguard experience is preferred. Aquatics background preferred. Skilled in using a basic first aid medical kit. Strong organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively. Current American Red Cross CPR and First Aid Certification Current Lifeguard Certification. Valid Florida Driver's License (Class E). The City may provide required training and certification classes to candidates. In some cases, an equivalent combination of higher education and experience may be considered, provided that the education and experience is in a relevant and related field. Essential Physical Functions & Environmental Conditions Ability to make a water rescue as needed. Must have good finger/hand dexterity, hand/eye coordination, good eyesight, hearing, and speech. Lifts up to 45 lbs. Moderate to frequent walking, standing, stooping, climbing, bending, kneeling, reaching, and pulling. May be required to stand, and swim for long periods of time. Strong swimming capabilities, and the physical ability to assist others in the pool. Work Environment Works outside in an environmentally uncontrolled space most of the time; and works in possibly adverse environmental conditions (e.g., sun, heat, cold, wind and rain) for periods of time; exposed to chemical products.
