Job Summary: Provide compassionate, patient- and family-centered care in both inpatient and outpatient settings, adhering to best practices and professional standards for exercise physiologists. Collaborate closely with nursing and respiratory therapy teams to deliver high-quality cardiopulmonary diagnostic and rehabilitative services. Essential Responsibilities: Perform non-invasive cardiopulmonary diagnostic procedures such as ECG, rhythm strips, heart monitor hookups, treadmill and nuclear stress tests, stress ECHO, and DOB echo under physician supervision after completing required training and competency evaluations. Collect brief cardiopulmonary histories by asking relevant questions prior to testing. Maintain departmental statistics and individual productivity records. Participate as a member of cardiac fast response teams in inpatient units. Apply clinical judgment considering patient age, diagnosis, and physical capabilities. Edit ECG and stress test reports according to established policies. Interact directly with patients and physicians regarding event recorder data management. Promote a safe environment focused on patient safety and adhere to departmental and organizational policies. Fiscal Responsibilities: Use time, supplies, and equipment efficiently. Support leadership in scheduling and supply management to ensure cost-effective care. Document patient charges accurately and timely. Chart initial and daily assessment data in participant records. Assess patients before, during, and after exercise, making appropriate referrals and recommendations. Quality and Teamwork: Engage as a team player in continuous quality improvement and data collection efforts. Assist in participant orientation and individualized care planning. Contribute expertise to multidisciplinary teams for comprehensive treatment strategies. Identify psychosocial adaptations to illness and potential psychopathology. Participate in outcome data collection, analysis, and reporting. Patient Satisfaction: Work to improve patient and family satisfaction, collaborating with nursing staff. Utilize contemporary health behavior change theories to support lifestyle modifications. Assess modifiable risk factors and provide supportive strategies for therapeutic lifestyle changes. Practice relationship-based care models. Patient Safety: Supervise exercise sessions and monitor for adverse responses. Apply exercise science knowledge to populations with cardiovascular, pulmonary, and other conditions. Develop and adjust individualized exercise prescriptions based on patient response and physician guidance. Report new or significant changes in patient condition immediately. Follow safety protocols including fire, hazardous waste, and emergency response plans. Professional Growth: Recognize personal limitations and seek assistance to improve core competencies. Participate in departmental development initiatives and share expertise. Complete orientation and ongoing mandatory education. Identify professional development needs and collaborate with management for learning opportunities. Follow up on corrective plans as needed. Customer Service: Exemplify excellent guest relations with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers. Maintain a professional, quiet patient environment and demonstrate flexibility with assignments and shifts. Practice AIDET communication techniques. Promote teamwork and maintain positive interdepartmental relationships. Provide holistic care to diverse patient populations. Education and Experience Required: Bachelor's degree in a health-related field or Exercise Science. Preferred minimum of one year cardiology experience if degree is in a health-related field. Area-specific certifications such as ACLS and BLS to be obtained and maintained upon hire. Licensure Preferred: ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist (EP-C), ASEP Board Certified Exercise Physiologist (EPC). Work Shift: 7:30am - 6:00pm, part-time, scheduled as needed. This position is located in a regional healthcare setting within the Midwest United States.
