Director of Data Engineering & Architecture - Hybrid Opportunity This is a hybrid position based at our corporate office in Brentwood, TN, with on-site work required Monday through Wednesday. This role provides leadership and strategic direction for data engineering and data architecture capabilities supporting enterprise analytics and healthcare operations. The Director, Data Engineering & Architecture is accountable for building and scaling modern, cloud-first data platforms that enable clinicians, administrators, and executives to make informed, data-driven decisions. The role oversees a growing team of data engineers and plays a central part in advancing the organization’s Azure-based data transformation, including the use of Azure Databricks and related services. Responsibilities span people leadership, platform architecture, delivery execution, and governance, with a strong focus on healthcare data standards, security, and regulatory compliance. Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team DevelopmentLead, mentor, and develop a team of data engineers across onshore and offshore resources Support workforce planning, hiring, onboarding, coaching, and performance management Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and technical excellence Data Platform & ArchitectureProvide architectural direction for the enterprise data warehouse and data lake, ensuring alignment with healthcare data standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA) Design and optimize scalable, secure data pipelines using Azure Databricks, Apache Spark, and Azure-native data services Guide integration of data from multiple healthcare sources, including EMRs, claims systems, and patient portals Ensure solutions are designed for scalability, reliability, cost efficiency, and long-term maintainability Delivery & CollaborationPartner with clinical, operational, analytics, and IT teams to deliver trusted, self-service data and insights Oversee strategic data initiatives and projects, ensuring alignment with business priorities and organizational goals Promote and institutionalize Agile and iterative development practices within the data engineering organization Governance, Quality & ComplianceEstablish and enforce data governance, privacy, security, and quality standards across platforms and pipelines Ensure compliant handling of healthcare data, including PHI, in accordance with HIPAA and internal policies Support data stewardship, documentation, and auditability across the data ecosystem Innovation & StrategyStay current with industry trends in data engineering, cloud platforms, DataOps, and MLOps Identify opportunities to modernize tooling, architecture, and delivery practices to improve outcomes and efficiency Contribute to long-term data and analytics strategy and roadmap development Required QualificationsBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience) 8+ years of experience in data engineering or related technical roles 3+ years of experience in a leadership or people management capacity Strong background in SQL, data modeling, and ETL/ELT development Hands-on experience with Azure Databricks, including: Building Spark-based data pipelines Managing cluster performance and cost optimization Integrating with Azure Data Factory and Azure Data Lake Storage Deep understanding of Azure cloud architecture and healthcare-specific data challenges Proven ability to design and architect data and analytics solutions across project, product, and program levels Preferred QualificationsFamiliarity with healthcare data formats and standards such as HL7, FHIR, and claims data Experience with BI and analytics tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Sigma Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders Experience operating in regulated environments with a focus on security, privacy, and compliance Benefits:Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance Health Savings Account with an employer contribution Life Insurance PTO 401(k) retirement plan with a company match And more!
