This key leadership role requires a physician with extensive experience in clinical care, education, and research. The selected candidate will provide strategic direction for the department, ensuring the delivery of top-notch evidence-based care while fostering excellence in academic and scholarly pursuits. The Head of Surgery will collaborate closely with the Chancellor, Executive Dean, and other academic leaders to shape and implement the department’s educational curriculum, support the residency program, and cultivate interdisciplinary cooperation. Responsibilities also include financial management, hospital operations, and enhancing community outreach to strengthen both the department’s and institution’s reputation. Applicants must possess a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree, be board-certified in surgery, and currently hold a medical school appointment at either the Associate or Full Professor level. A minimum of 10 years of clinical practice experience is required, with a strong preference for candidates having at least 3 years of administrative experience in an academic medical center. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a successful track record in scholarly activities, securing grant funding, and embodying the institution’s values. Wide-ranging knowledge of clinical operations, management, and a collaborative management philosophy emphasizing accountability and integrity are crucial.
