FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports To: Program Director / Youth Development Director Position Summary The Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting YMCA participants to and from YMCA programs, schools, and community locations. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, punctuality, and positive experience of all riders while modeling the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. Essential Functions Safely operate YMCA vehicles in compliance with all state and local traffic laws Transport program participants to and from designated locations according to assigned schedules Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly Ensure proper supervision and safe behavior of passengers during transport Maintain accurate attendance, mileage, and trip logs as required Communicate effectively with YMCA staff regarding schedules, delays, or concerns Follow YMCA policies, safety procedures, and emergency protocols Maintain cleanliness and orderly condition of the vehicle Provide courteous, professional interactions with participants, families, staff, and community partners YMCA Competencies (Leader) Mission Advancement: Demonstrates commitment to YMCA values and youth safety Collaboration: Works effectively with program staff and participants Operational Effectiveness: Ensures safe, reliable, and timely transportation Personal Growth: Maintains required certifications and seeks ongoing improvement Child Abuse Prevention language: Employees and volunteers who directly supervise consumers will: Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers. Attend required abuse risk management training. Employees and volunteers who do not directly supervise consumers will: Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers. Attend required abuse risk management training. Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations. Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements. Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities. Maintenance employees and volunteers-ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked; routinely monitor high-risk locations (locker-rooms and bathrooms), etc. Front desk personnel-ensure consumers are properly signed in and signed out,ensures only authorized adults are allowed in the facility, etc. Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers. Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations. Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required if applicable to vehicle type Previous professional driving experience preferred Ability to pass background checks, motor vehicle record check, and drug screening per ALDOT CPR/AED and First Aid certification required (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe) Work Schedule Part-time hours based on program needs Flexible availability required, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and occasional weekends Physical Demands Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a vehicle Ability to assist passengers entering and exiting the vehicle Ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations Equal Opportunity Employer The YMCA of South Alabama is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity.
