The Optometric Technician will work directly with our optometrists to provide comprehensive eye care services to patients, ensuring efficient workflow, accurate data collection, and an excellent patient experience. This role combines clinical responsibilities, patient education, and administrative support within a busy optometry practice.Essential Responsibilities Clinical and Exam SupportPerform pre‑testing and entrance exam procedures, including automated refraction, basic glaucoma screening, visual fields, retinal photography, OCT, and other advanced imaging as directed.Prepare patients for exams by taking thorough medical and ocular histories, including medications, allergies, and social history relevant to eye health.Sanitize and maintain diagnostic equipment.Patient Experience and EducationGreet patients warmly, review their reason for visit, and explain the testing process in clear, understandable language.Educate patients on proper contact lens insertion, removal, and hygiene. Provide written instructions and follow‑up guidance for contact lens wear, post‑procedure care, and home eye care routines as directed.Serve as the primary liaison between patients and the doctor, answering basic questions and escalating complex concerns to the optometrist.Administrative and Operational DutiesCheck patients in and out, verify insurance information, and obtain prior authorizations as needed.Maintain and update electronic medical records (EMR) and optical software, ensuring accurate entry of exam findings, test results, and patient notes.Schedule patient appointments, recall lists, and follow‑up visits, coordinating with the optometrist and optical staff.Manage phone calls, emails, and online messages, responding professionally and promptly to patient inquiries.Qualifications and RequirementsHigh school diploma or equivalent; additional coursework in opticianry, optometric technology, or allied health is preferred but not required.Experience as an optometric technician, ophthalmic technician, or optometric assistant in an eye care setting is preferred but not required.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer‑service skills with the ability to explain procedures clearly to patients of all ages.Ability to stand for extended periods, move between exam rooms, and handle multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.Reliable attendance, punctuality, and a positive, team‑oriented attitude.Work EnvironmentPart time hours (around 25 hours per wk), typically Monday–Friday daytime schedule.Fast‑paced clinical environment with direct patient contact and collaboration with optometrists, opticians, and front‑desk staff.How to ApplyPlease submit a resume and a brief cover letter outlining your experience in eye care, your familiarity with pre‑testing equipment, and why you are interested in joining our team to or apply through this website.We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from diverse candidates
