SUMMARY: The Department Supervisor is responsible for departmental operations, production, safety, and policy enforcement for the smokehouse area. The Supervisor will oversee and maintain process control elements related to the cooking and chilling processes to sustain regulatory requirements to CCP's(Critical Control Points). Other responsibilities include ensuring accurate measurements are being conducted routinely to provide optimal quality and yields throughout the process. The supervisor will provide training and encourage operational excellence, fostering a continuous improvement mindset. Work closely and assist in coordination of the activities involving cooking controls. Plan and review departmental project(s), be proactive in managing thermal cooking programs, probe calibration, generator controls, startup pre-flights while demonstrating a problem-solving mentality working with all shifts. Direct HACCP and GMP policies. Conduct daily meetings with department direct reports on KPI's and Safety. Maintain high standards of excellence, attention to detail and the willingness/flexibility to work through peak work cycles. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including the following: Overseeing day-to-day department operations, identifying solutions to problems, and developing and implementing corrective and preventative measures. Establish process flow and coordinate lean scheduling to meet supply and demand. Ensure department personnel follow the established procedures for startup, operation, and shutdown of the department. Follow production reports and troubleshoot any issues during operation. Offer potential solutions and report any issues daily to the Production Manager. Follow critical control points throughout the process and partner with downstream management to identify and eliminate deviations related to slice ability. Ensure prescribed checks and monitoring of all operating equipment are carried out as required. Establish and ensure that safety policies and procedures are followed. Establish routine auditing points towards sustainability. Coordinate all employee activities and training for the department with the help of the Production Manager and CI department. Maintain proper records and logs of activities and operating conditions, and down time. Prepare and maintain updated production schedules. Understand, support, and help implement/maintain the Quality Management System (QMS), ERP, Red Zone, Operating Policies, and Daily's safety programs. Understand, support, and help implement goals and objectives, and continuous improvement plans and activities. Perform other duties and assignments as directed by Daily's management. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Empowers others to do the same. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred, three (3) or more years related experience and/or training in supervisory roles. Prior experience in bacon production or further processed meats is preferred. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence. Must be able to effectively present information before groups within the organization. Bilingual skills in Spanish preferred. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply mathematical formulas to practical situations. OTHER SKILLS: Must be computer literate with intermediate skills in Excel. Possess analytical skills to perform root cause analysis. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to make decisions on routine matters utilizing company policies and procedures and directions from upper management. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about the facility, could be standing/walking on concrete floors up to 12 hours per day, 6 days per week. Must be able to lift/carry up to 30 pounds. The employee is required to sit, use hand to finger coordination; handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Standing, stooping, walking, bending, and climbing are all expected physical abilities, with or without accommodations. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work environment varies from office setting, production floor and outside climate conditions, depending on department assigned. Noise levels may vary within areas of the plant. Must be able to tolerate cold (35 degrees or colder) and wet conditions. NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: The hours and days of work are established at the discretion of management and may be adjusted (increased or decreased) by management as required. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, as necessary. Must be able to work weekends and holidays as scheduled by customer product demand.
