JOB SUMMARY: The Infrastructure Engineer II is a key technical leader responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and long term strategic direction of CARTIs physical and virtual server environments. This role oversees core infrastructure services and the overall health, performance, and scalability of the CARTI datacenter. The Infrastructure Engineer II collaborates closely with IT leadership, application owners, and external partners to ensure a secure, resilient, and high performing system infrastructure that supports CARTIs clinical and operational needs. SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Designs, implements, and maintains CARTIs datacenter architecture, including compute, storage, and virtualization platforms.Oversees provisioning, configuration, patching, and full lifecycle management of server infrastructure.Develops long-term infrastructure strategies and roadmaps aligned with organizational growth and industry best practices.Evaluates emerging technologies and recommends enhancements to improve system performance, resilience, and efficiency.Administers, optimizes, and troubleshoots physical and virtual server environments (e.g., VMware, Windows Server, Linux).Maintains secure system configurations, technical documentation, inventories, and diagrams.Promotes continuous learning, technical excellence, and cross-functional knowledge sharing.Provides mentorship, training, and technical guidance to mid-level engineers to support team development and succession planning.Partners with cybersecurity teams to identify, assess, and remediate infrastructure vulnerabilities.Designs, manages, and optimizes Veeam backup architecture, including replication, recovery testing, and compliance with data retention policies.Administers and supports Microsoft 365 and Azure services, including identity management and integration with on-premises systems.Supports enterprise applications and backend services to ensure consistent availability and optimal performance.Collaborates with application owners, vendors, and technical partners on upgrades, integrations, and complex troubleshooting.Provides leadership in evaluating and integrating enterprise applications, ensuring strategic alignment and optimal performance across the organization.Supports incident response activities, including root cause analysis, business continuity operations, and disaster recovery execution.Ensures high availability, redundancy, and disaster recovery readiness across all infrastructure systems.Delivers periodic datacenter health updates, performance assessments, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.Achieves programmatic objectives and professional development goals established by the Chief Information Officer.Performs other duties required to support organizational and departmental objectives. OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS: Other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: No EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, REGISTRATION: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Management, or equivalent required; Masters degree preferred.At least one professional-level Microsoft, VMware, AWS, Cisco, or equivalent certification required. EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES: 7+ years of experience in computer systems, including at least 5 years focused on server management and infrastructure architecture.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to diagnose complex technical issues.Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information to diverse audiences.Proficiency with a wide range of tools and software (e.g., Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, Azure, M365, Veeam).Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related productivity tools necessary for reporting, documentation, and record maintenance.Highly organized with strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in configuration, documentation, and system management.Ability to follow technical instructions and established procedures.Strong customer service, communication, and documentation skills.Willingness to pursue industry certifications and ongoing professional development.Ability to work on multiple, moderately complex assignments simultaneously. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems where limited standardization exists.Ability to interpret written and verbal instructions.Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions at a college level.Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.Ability to serve as the primary contact while troubleshooting problems with end-users.Ability to manage projects and organize based on priority.Ability to serve as liaison between application users/stakeholders and the Information Technology Department, translating user needs into technical requirements.Ability to evaluate and resolve technical problems using audible and visual indicators. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Must interact and communicate both verbally and in written form.Must interact and exchange information regarding patients with physicians and other departmental personnel, and outside agencies frequently, while respecting the confidentiality of patient information.Ability to work individually and in a team setting as required.Ability to resolve issues/complaints, maintain confidentiality, and make satisfactory decisions independently.Ability to interact effectively with physicians and other medical personnel PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
