Providing specialized respiratory care, this role focuses on delivering intensive treatments and patient transport within medical guidelines and professional standards. Operating with minimal supervision, the respiratory clinician evaluates patient conditions, creates treatment plans, and educates patients about their therapies. Key responsibilities include administering physician-prescribed respiratory treatments using a variety of ventilatory, oxygen, aerosol, and nebulizer devices. Tasks also involve chest physiotherapy, suctioning, oximetry and capnography monitoring, and reviewing chest X-rays to assess patient needs. The therapist performs 12-lead EKGs, arrhythmia recognition, pulmonary function studies, and assists with respiratory-related procedures such as bronchoscopy and chest tube placement. Additional duties encompass tracheostomy care, arterial punctures, medication administration, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BLS and ACLS), mechanical ventilation setup and monitoring, and maintenance of respiratory equipment. Accurate and thorough documentation of treatments, patient responses, and communications with medical staff is essential.
