Purpose Statement The Rock Hill Schools Pilot Residency seeks to create and support pathways for paraprofessionals and teaching assistants to become certified classroom teachers. Aligned with a Grow-Your-Own model, this initiative will involve strategic partnerships with institutions of higher education (IHEs) and state-approved alternative certification programs to offer rich, collaborative experiences that prepare residents for successful teaching careers. Positions in the pilot program are subject to funding and partnership availability. Essential Functions The Resident will be employed as a teaching assistant and partnered with a cooperating teacher in the same certification area. The Resident will perform responsibilities and duties of a teaching assistant and participate fully in requirements from their partner program and Rock Hill Schools. The Residency prepares the Resident similarly to that of a traditional internship. Place of Work The normal place of work is on the premises used by Rock Hill Schools. Rock Hill Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time. Placement for Residency is contingent upon school district vacancy and position needs. Minimum Qualifications Admittance into preferred partnership Residency program Outstanding references from current and former supervisors Satisfactory background report Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Experience working with school-age students Outstanding verbal and written communication skills Cooperative, able to work with supervising teachers and other staff members Skill in interpersonal relations with pupils, parents, teachers, staff, and the general public Ability to maintain professional and emotional control under stress required Ability to learn and use learning system software Ability to learn to write and implement lesson plans, unit plans, and assessment plans Ability to implement feedback from cooperating teacher, administrator, and/or district liaison Ability to communicate effectively Ability to employ positive communication skills in all settings/mediums Ability to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationships Ability to problem-solve utilizing sound judgment Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding students Ability to take initiative and work independently to meet deadlines Ability to collaborate and work with school-based teams preferred Salary Range: Support Scale Employment Status: Non-Exempt Length of Contract: 185 days/7 hours per day Starting Date: Determined by Human Resources Job Categories Instructional Support/Paraprofessional/IA Job Requirements Citizenship, residency or work visa required Disclaimer The preceding job description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification.
