Position Purpose: As a Veterinary Care Support Specialist, you will play an essential role in delivering exceptional medical care to our patients while providing outstanding support to their owners. Essential Job Functions In this role, you will be expected to perform the following duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation: Welcome clients and their pets for appointments, escort them to examination rooms, collect and record their weight, vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration), and document their visit in the electronic medical record. Assist veterinarians with appointments (routine and emergency), surgical procedures, dental work, and euthanasia under the supervision of credentialed veterinary technicians and practice leaders. Provide patient restraint, collect and process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications as instructed, and maintain electronic medical records effectively. Schedule appointments, educate clients, communicate test results, and manage patient records. Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures, assist with anesthetizing patients, and monitor them safely under anesthesia as well as during recovery and discharge. Administer in-hospital treatments for sick patients, including medications and IV fluid therapy; ensure patient cleanliness, hydration, and nutrition under veterinary guidance. Support in training new team members as directed. Maintain a clean and orderly hospital environment by following regular cleaning protocols. Other Duties and Responsibilities Perform additional duties as assigned. Provide backup support at the front desk and on the phone when necessary. Nature of Supervision During patient care activities, you'll receive direct supervision from veterinarians and veterinary technicians, with overall supervision provided by the practice leader or supervising technician. Planning and Problem Solving Your role is crucial in ensuring efficient daily operations and delivering an exceptional experience for both patients and clients. This role is vital for building a well-trained, motivated team and fostering an optimal environment for employee retention, patient care, and customer satisfaction. Supervisory Responsibility This position does not entail immediate supervisory duties. Education/Experience A minimum of 1 year of experience in a veterinary setting or substantial related animal care experience is preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Compassion and professionalism, especially in high-stress situations, are critical. Proficiency with telephones and computers is required. A collaborative spirit and openness to learning new techniques and adapting to change are vital. Work Environment: This role primarily takes place in a Veterinary Hospital and requires physical stamina to bend, kneel, lift (up to 30 pounds), and stand for extended periods. Frequent interactions with clients and their pets will be a key aspect of the job.
