To learn more: The Hospice Aide provides compassionate personal care services to hospice patients, under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or therapist. Personal care interventions are completed in accordance with each patient's individualized plan of care, with accurate and timely documentation. What You'll Do In This Role Provide care for hospice patients consistent with the tasks listed on the written plan of care. Complete personal hygiene for patients, including bathing, oral hygiene, hair care, skin care and dressing. Assist client with mobility, including walking, transferring, turning, and positioning including the use of transfer devices such as the Hoyer lift and transfer board. Assist client with prescribed exercises to which the client and the aide have been trained. Assist with toileting needs, including assistance with bedpan, urinal, bedside commode, toilet use and incontinence care. Assist with reminders to take medications that are ordinarily self-administered. Observe, report and document changes in the patient's condition and needs to the LPN or RN. Prepare or assist with feeding of meals and snacks; includes clean-up of kitchen area. Perform additional assigned duties related to patient care, including monitoring vital signs, Foley catheter care, basic infection control and emergency procedures, and post-mortem care, as needed. Complete appropriate records in compliance with agency policies and procedures. All other duties as assigned. Core Competencies Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills. The Experience You'll BringRequired Certification as a nursing assistant issued by the Virginia Board of Nursing One year of nursing assistant experience Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suite Valid state driver's license Motor Vehicle Driving Record satisfactory to Westminster-Canterbury and its insurance providers Proof of motor vehicle insurance Flu-Vaccinated Preferred Experience in Hospice, Home Health, or a Skilled Nursing Facility COVID-19 Vaccinated. As of now, the 2025-2026 COVID-19 vaccine formulation is being distributed to providers and pharmacies; however, it has not yet received official approval from the CDC. In Virginia, pharmacists may administer COVID-19 vaccines under the Virginia Board of Pharmacy's statewide protocols or with a direct order from a licensed medical provider. We encourage all new hires to consult with their healthcare provider regarding the most current vaccination recommendations. Please be aware that, depending on future CDC guidance or regulatory updates, we may require proof of the most recent COVID-19 vaccination as part of our ongoing commitment to health and safety.
