Job Description The Property Management Program in Virginia Tech's College of Architecture, Arts, and Design (AAD) invites applications for a full-time academic year Assistant Professor of Practice appointment, to begin August 2026 in Blacksburg, Virginia. This is a 9-month (academic-year) appointment with an initial term of three years and the opportunity for renewal. Positions at the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice carry expectations in teaching, professional engagement, and service. You'll teach highly motivated undergraduate students preparing for leadership roles across residential and commercial property sectors, bringing your practical experience directly into the classroom. Primary responsibilities of the position include: • Instruction: Teach and develop undergraduate courses within the Property Management curriculum. • Industry Leadership: Lead, support, participate, and help coordinate the Property Management Advisory Board meetings and annual career fair. • Mentorship: Advise and mentor undergraduate students through service as faculty advisor to student organizations related to property management and experiential learning activities. • Recruitment: Support recruitment of majors and minors through various channels. • Collaboration: Collaborate within AAD and other programs in the School of Design as well as units across campus to enhance the Property Management program for faculty and students. Required Qualifications • A Master's degree from an accredited institution in property management or a related field; or bachelor's degree in property management or related field combined with exceptional professional credentials validated by regional or national awards/recognitions for professional products and significant experience in professional practice. • Significant professional experience in residential or commercial property management, maintenance management, leasing, operations, management, real estate, hospitality tourism and management, public or business administration, or related field. Preferred Qualifications • Minimum 5 years or more of professional experience • Certified Apartment Manager (CAM), Certified Apartment Portfolio Supervisor (CAPS), Certified Property Manager (CPM), Accredited Residential Manager (ARM), or Accredited Commercial Manager (AcoM) designation • Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), National Apartment Association (NAA), and/or National Affordable Housing Management Association (NAHMA) membership • Prior teaching experience; especially demonstrated teaching experience with college students Materials Submission For full consideration, interested applicants are asked to submit the following: Letter of intent that includes the candidate's proven experience, the potential capacity to fulfill duties and responsibilities, including both the required and preferred qualifications above.
