Work Arrangement: This role allows for hybrid or remote work from the USA. Candidates are expected to report to the office three times a week or as business needs dictate if located within 50 miles of the office in Warren, MI. Alternative remote arrangements may be available for some positions outside this radius. Design Across Platforms: We develop cohesive digital ecosystems connecting users to their vehicles, spanning from infotainment systems to mobile apps and hardware configurations. Build Strong Foundations: We create scalable design systems and interaction models ensuring accessibility and innovation at every touchpoint. Innovate Interactions: We define the navigation methods for voice controls, advanced driver-assist features, and connected services. Position Summary - Manager of Motion Systems The Motion Systems Group, part of Vehicle OS within the Human Interface Design division, is essential in bringing GM's user experience to life inside the digital cabin. Motion serves as a powerful tool for clarity, emotion, and brand presence in automotive experiences. As the Motion Systems Group Manager, you will play a crucial role in defining how GM's interfaces behave through animation, motion principles, timing models, and expressive brand behaviors. Your mission will be to lead this team in developing GM's in-vehicle motion language. With a focus on design guidelines, reusable libraries, and high-fidelity animations, you'll collaborate with engineering and UX teams to ensure our motion elements are cohesive and technically sound. This position requires a leader who views motion as a strategic thought process. You’ll bring structure and critique to a discipline central to usability and customer perception. Your role will involve fostering a culture of collaboration where designers are encouraged to explore and refine their ideas while paying careful attention to detail and meaning. Your Responsibilities: Build and Cultivate the Motion Team: Scale, onboard, mentor, and empower your team to establish expert practices. Motion Design: Define the flow, rhythm, and choreography of the interface to ensure every brand experience moves meaningfully. UX Motion Strategy: Develop and articulate the UX motion strategy alongside your team. Your Creative Outputs Will Include: High-Quality Animation: For product development, vision, and storytelling. Interface Animation + Art Direction: Create micro-interactions, transitions, gestures, and system behaviors. Motion Guidelines: Establish rules for timing, easing, and behavior. Motion Principles: Develop the foundational concepts for motion behavior across GM brands. Motion Systems: Create scalable, reusable motion structures across various platforms. Motion Library: Provide documented solutions for cross-brand, platform, and feature requirements. Support for Video Creation: Design motion overlays and animations for marketing and storytelling. Your Skills & Abilities: 10+ years of professional experience in Motion Design or UX Design. A portfolio that highlights your ability to convey stories through visual craft while also demonstrating your leadership by example. Independent problem solver with a proactive approach to creating clarity. Strong grasp of human interface design best practices. A quick iterater with a solid design perspective who effectively navigates cross-functional feedback. Ability to advocate for motion design with compelling narratives backed by clear examples. Deep design sensibility and passion for brand aesthetics, particularly in automotive contexts. Comfortable with technical challenges and adept at working with engineers and product managers. Preferred Qualifications: 3+ years leading people and developing a team. Experience with global motion executions and their adaptations. Established motion systems and guidelines implemented successfully. Experience in designing for non-traditional interfaces (e.g., automotive, voice, wearables).
