Salary : $55,788.00 - $69,734.00 Annually Location : City of Casselberry, FL Job Type: Full-time Job Number: 4672026 Department: Administrative Services Division: Information Technology Opening Date: 02/03/2026 Closing Date: Continuous General Description The GIS Technician performs technical and professional work to support the City's Geographic Information System (GIS). This position is responsible for providing GIS queries, data summaries, maps, and data maintenance, and research related to the development and maintenance of the City's GIS. The GIS Technician exercises considerable discretion for independent decisions based on technical or professional knowledge. Examples of Essential FunctionsDevelops and maintains the City's Geographical Information Systems. (95%) Acquires, creates, and maintains GIS data; creates and organizes map compositions. Performs queries, summarizes statistics and produces data reports to support City projects. Maintains the City's GIS database, including systems plans/maps, on a continuous basis and verifies the quality and accuracy of the data. Files and catalogs maps for accessibility. Promotes coordination of inter-departmental GIS standards. Issues and maintains the City's address and parcel data. (35%) Assigns, reviews and corrects address points within the City's GIS database. Assigns, reviews and corrects street names within the City's GIS database. Reviews residential site plans for adherence to City, County and State law regarding 911 addresses and advises applicants of any 911-related address modifications to their plans. Additional Duties and Responsibilities (5%) Performs all duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with the core values of the City, and consistent with City and department policies. Adheres to laws, regulations, and policies of the City and of the assigned department. Follows instructions provided by the supervisor, department director or their designee. Completes the identified required or assigned training timely and applies acquired knowledge and/or skills. Participates in department meetings, staff meetings and other related activities. Follows safe working practices and has a working knowledge of safety practices and procedures. Maintains, preserves, retains and disposes of public records pursuant to FS Chapter 119. Emergency Management Role Participates as a member of the City staff as required to take action in the event of an emergency. Acts in the assigned role to support the City in disaster preparation and/or disaster recovery efforts as described in the City of Casselberry Emergency Management Plan, supervisor, or designee. Typical Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and Training: A minimum of an Associate's degree (AA/AS) from an accredited college or university in Geographic Information System (GIS) graphics, AutoCAD, and mapping applications, geography, cartography and engineering drafting or closely related field is required. A comparable combination of education, training and experience may be considered. Experience: A minimum of two (2) years' experience working in a GIS production environment with the use of ArcView, Arc Info and CAD software programs required. Government agency experience preferred. Certificates, Licenses and/or Registrations Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's license. A Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check will be made to determine acceptance of past driving record. Security Clearance: Florida Department of Law Enforcement background clearance is required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of GIS database management and maintenance. Knowledge (intermediate to advanced level) of computers and specific software programs including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online. Knowledge of cartographic techniques. Knowledge of geographic information technology and terminology. Knowledge of the appropriate uses of GIS technology and available application packages to recommend solutions for end users. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; including but not limited to Outlook, Word, and Excel. Ability to effectively organize and prioritize requests for service and support. Ability to read and interpret aerial photographs and maps. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public. Ability to communicate technical information to nontechnical personnel. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Work Environment: This position primarily performs the duties in an office setting. Occasionally, this position may be exposed to outside various weather conditions while traveling to conduct an onsite visit. The noise level in the work environment is moderate and consistent with an office environment. B. Physical Demands: The primary functions require prolonged periods of time sitting at a computer, standing, walking, bending, and using hands to handle, feel and reach with arms. In addition, this position may be required to occasionally lift and carry up to ten (10) pounds with or without assistance. This position is regularly required to use vision, speech and hearing, with or without assistive devices. C. Equipment/Tools and Technology Used: This position utilizes the following tools and equipment while performing the duties of the job: Desktop computer, desk phone, mobile phone, desktop scanner, copier, city vehicle. D. Employee Infection/Exposure Risk Classification: Category III: Employee performs tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM). Persons who perform these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid, or to be potentially exposed in some other way. Tasks that involve handling of implements or utensils, use of public or shared bathroom facilities or telephones, and personal contact such as handshaking are Category III tasks.
