You will be part of the Coinbase Institutional Team. Our engineers develop and maintain a diverse suite of products tailored for institutional clients, ranging from Hedge Funds (Coinbase Prime) to seasoned individual traders (Coinbase Advanced Trade) and everyone in between. Our Institutional Products encompass Custody, Commerce, and Exchange. Regardless of customer needs-trading, financing, staking, governance, custody, or API integrations-Coinbase Institutional is equipped to meet them. The Institutional Derivatives Exchange Team is looking for an Engineering Manager to guide a talented and growing engineering team at the frontier of solving prominent industry challenges. This is a thrilling opportunity to support and expand our crypto derivatives business both in the U.S. and internationally as we aim to be the most trusted crypto platform worldwide. Your responsibilities will include: Leading the engineering teams that build critical systems for institutional products that shape the future of crypto. Collaborating with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to transform our vision into a clear roadmap. Breaking down complex projects into manageable pieces and leading the iterative design and implementation process. Acting as a key technical voice within the team, supporting sound architectural decisions and nurturing a culture of quality and operational excellence. Partnering with Product and Engineering teams to ensure the successful delivery and operation of complex distributed systems at scale. Coaching your direct reports to positively influence the organization and fostering their career growth. Collaborating closely with our talent team to find and recruit exceptional engineers who resonate with Coinbase's culture and contribute to our products. Contributing to and taking ownership of processes that enhance engineering quality and meet our engineering SLAs. What we expect from you: Minimum of 7 years' experience in software engineering. At least 1 year of experience in engineering management. A capability to balance long-term strategic objectives with short-term planning. Experience in creating, delivering, and managing multi-tenant, distributed systems at scale. Willingness to be hands-on when necessary-whether that's writing/reviewing code or technical documents, participating in on-call rotations, or troubleshooting bugs. A strong passion for building an open financial system that unites the world drives your commitment to excel in this role. Preferred qualifications: Experience in a company that underwent rapid growth (from 10 to hundreds of engineers). Knowledge of blockchains such as Bitcoin or Ethereum. Familiarity with programming languages and tools such as Golang, Ruby, Docker, Sinatra, Rails, and Postgres. Experience building financial systems with high reliability or security requirements. Crypto-focused experience, including familiarity with on-chain activities, Ethereum addresses, using ENS, and engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services. Job ID# P72250 Pay Transparency Notice: Depending on your work location, the target annual base salary for this position ranges from $218,025 to $256,500 USD. Full-time offers from Coinbase also include bonus eligibility, equity opportunities, and comprehensive benefits such as medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).
