ABOUT THE Division General description Join the Information Technology division as a Network Specialist! Work involves the implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of the agency's network, a local area network or wide area network, Internet and intranet systems, and other data networks. Monitors and troubleshoots existing infrastructure. The candidate must have the ability to learn new concepts quickly and apply knowledge appropriately in a highly active environment with ever-changing circumstances. Work Hours Must be able to work an eight-hour schedule between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm, 40-hour week, Monday - Friday with occasional work schedule variance when necessary. Perform on-call duty on a rotational basis and occasionally work additional hours based on business peaks. Hours may change based on business need. Teleworking may be considered if certain working conditions are met. The candidate must have permanent residency within the state of Texas and must be able to meet in office requirements, which can vary among different sections (i.e. report to office 1 day/month, 3 days/week, etc.). Travel reimbursements are not provided for teleworking. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: • Graduation from high school or GED. • Eight (8) years of experience in supporting network infrastructures. • Five (5) years of experience in supporting advanced network infrastructures Preferred Qualifications: • Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate or higher degree in information technology, engineering degree or related. • Data Center network infrastructure • Cloud infrastructure • Cloud network infrastructure • Cisco voice and network infrastructure systems • Configuration and administration of routers, switches and firewalls • Virtual Private Network (IPSEC and SSL) • Maintaining and supporting Cisco managed wireless networks • Network access control - network firewalling and advanced firewall capabilities • Network security tools - network IPS • Web proxy implementation, administration and monitoring • Network performance monitoring and capacity management • Administration of Windows servers • Administration of Linux servers • Engaging vendor support Substitutions: Applicable and current technical certificates may substitue for years of experience • CCNA - 2 years experience • CCNP - 4 years experience • CCIE - 6 years experience Licenses/Certifications (Preferred): • Cisco CCNA, CCNP and/or CCIE. • AWS Network, Cloud Security, In this role you will: • Architects modifications and enhancements to existing enterprise network to support business needs of the agency • Installs, configures, tests, upgrades, and maintains network equipment and software • Analyzes existing network and system procedures for efficiency and effectiveness • Receives high level instructions for tasks and activities o Organizes instructions into details tasks • Supports and maintains monitoring solutions • Troubleshoots existing infrastructure o Supports second level incidents o Engages vendor technical support • Utilizes agency ticketing system to enter and track problems and work requests • Leads and suggests new activities and direction • Research budget requirements for the agency network and voice infrastructure • Assists in defining agency disaster recovery responsibilities and procedures • Serves as technical lead on projects as necessary • Represents team during meetings and projects • Works with business units • Architects, designs and implements new solutions o Engages vendor technical support • Investigates, plans and designs new network solutions and features that support business needs and align with Agency architecture • Coordinates projects that cross functional agency systems, and other state entities that require planning and scheduling during the project development and implementation • Creates and maintains accurate documentation • May teach and train others • Preforms routine changes • Receives detailed instructions for tasks and activities • Troubleshoot existing infrastructure o Supports first level incidents • Performs other related duties as assigned Maximize Your Earnings!
