Job Description The Correctional Officer is crucial in maintaining the safety and security of the facility, ensuring the well-being of inmates, personnel, and the public. Safeguard custody, control, and security of inmates within the facility. Engage with inmates daily while supervising and guiding their activities. Conduct security inspections and checks in compliance with established policies and standards. Enforce regulations consistently and fairly. Assist inmates with understanding procedures, behavior expectations, and daily schedules. Maintain accurate logs and reports, updating computerized records as necessary. Respond effectively to emergency situations and provide support to fellow officers as needed. Alert medical staff to any urgent health concerns or symptoms. Physical activity is essential: walking extensively, occasional running, and climbing stairs. Must be available for 12-hour rotating shifts, both day and night. As essential personnel, officers may be called back for emergencies or severe weather events. Physical Fitness Requirements for Entry-Level Training Sit and Reach 1.5 Mile Run 1 Minute Maximum Sit-Ups 1 Minute Maximum Push-Ups 300 Meter Run Law-Fit Obstacle Course (includes various physical challenges) Miscellaneous Activities Requiring Physical Fitness Defensive Tactics Program: includes various physical movements essential for control techniques. Firearms Training: includes running, kneeling, and other necessary motions for effective weapon handling. General Physical Fitness Exercises: such as push-ups, jumping jacks, and sit-ups. Standard activities associated with jail and law enforcement duties performed in the course of service. Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution. A valid driver's license is required. Basic computer skills are necessary. DMV transcript and criminal background checks must be satisfactory. Must complete Basic Jailor Academy Training within one year of employment.
