RPC is an equal opportunity employer.DutiesThe Application Developer will be responsible for designing and implementing web-based and enterprise applications using Microsoft technologies within our Azure cloud environment. You will work with IIS-hosted applications, Azure-registered enterprise applications, and database-driven solutions that connect to MS SQL Server instances in Azure. This role requires both independent problem-solving and collaboration with IT infrastructure teams to ensure seamless integration across our technology stack.This role is expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy and technical ownership, taking responsibility for designing, building, deploying, and maintaining production systems end-to-end.Key ResponsibilitiesYou will develop and maintain custom applications that interface with Azure SQL Server databases, including stored procedures, queries, and data integration workflows. Your work will include building and deploying applications through Azure App Services and IIS, implementing Azure AD (Entra ID) authentication for enterprise applications, and managing application registrations within the Azure portal for secure API access and service-to-service communications.Performance optimization will be a key focus, as you'll need to troubleshoot application and database performance issues, implement error handling and logging strategies, and ensure applications follow security best practices including encryption, secure credential management, and compliance with data protection standards. You will document technical specifications, deployment procedures, and application architectures while working with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions.Our primary environment is Office365 and Azure which have AI capabilities we would like to explore and implement. The right candidate will act as a technical owner for multiple production systems, including architecture decisions, performance, reliability, and security.Other third-party software products essential to our operations are SmartSheet, QuickBooks, Bigtime, and Brighterway (medical summaries+). The candidate will be responsible for understanding those packages and the RPC workflows associated with them. You will work with RPC staff to bridge between those products and the Microsoft environment to increase productivity and produce additional data and reports.RPC has developed medical bill review software and identified many opportunities to extend and improve this software. You will be responsible for implementing improvements identified by the economics staff.The candidate will not normally be expected to respond to helpdesk requests but will assist other IT staff and contractors in emergency situations.Required QualificationsThe ideal candidate has for this role has: 3–6+ years of hands-on experience developing and supporting production applications in Microsoft Azure environments.Strong proficiency in at least one production-grade language such as C#, .NET, Python, or PowerShell, with experience building real systems used by business users.Demonstrated experience with Azure SQL Server, database design, performance tuning, and writing complex stored procedures and queries.Hands-on experience with Azure App Services, IIS-hosted applications, Azure AD (Entra ID), application registrations, and secure API integrations.Practical experience designing and deploying AI-driven solutions in production, such as Azure OpenAI, AI agents, or workflow automation systems.Comfortable working independently, owning technical decisions, and operating as a senior individual contributor. The ideal candidate has real-world experience designing and deploying AI-driven systems in production environments, such as: Azure OpenAI or similar LLM platforms AI agents, workflow automation, or decision-support systems Integrations between AI services and enterprise data sources (SQL, APIs, Office365) This role is not exploratory or academic — we are seeking someone who can build practical AI solutions that directly impact business operations. Best-suited candidates will have already operated as the primary technical owner for at least one cloud-based application.Candidate should be comfortable working with Azure services including App Services, Azure AD (Entra ID), Key Vault, and application registrations, and have practical knowledge of RESTful APIs, authentication protocols (OAuth, SAML), and web service integration. Experience with version control systems like Git and basic understanding of DevOps practices for application deployment are also required.Candidate should have experience developing AI- or ML-driven applications, such as Azure OpenAI integrations, Google Gemini, cognitive services, and/or custom machine learning models.Candidate should have several years of experience with AI solutions compatible with Office365 and Azure environments, including where and how to get additional information on product availability and capabilities. You will be responsible for working with RPC staff to identify opportunities to increase productivity and improve product quality by making full use of the Microsoft environment. This includes development of AI agents and other programming.Preferred QualificationsWhile not required, we'd value experience with Azure DevOps or CI/CD pipelines for automated deployments, familiarity with PowerShell scripting for automation tasks, knowledge of Azure Logic Apps, Functions, or other serverless computing options, and understanding of hybrid cloud scenarios connecting on-premises systems to Azure resources. Experience with reporting tools such as Power BI or SSRS, relevant Azure certifications (Azure Developer Associate, Azure Database Administrator), and background working in healthcare environments would all be advantageous.Experience working in healthcare or HIPAA-regulated environments, with understanding of compliance and data security considerations is a strong plus.Technical EnvironmentYou'll be working with Microsoft SQL Server in Azure (including Azure SQL Database and SQL Server on Azure VMs), IIS web servers and Azure App Services, Azure Active Directory (Entra ID) for identity management, Visual Studio or VS Code development environments, and various Azure management tools and portals.This position offers an opportunity to work with modern cloud technologies while building practical solutions that directly impact business operations. You'll have the autonomy to architect solutions while being supported by experienced IT infrastructure professionals.SalaryThe budgeted salary range for this position is $115,000 to $135,000, plus benefits including 401(k) matching, health insurance and performance bonuses.LocationResearch Planning Consultants, LP is located in Austin, TX. The preference is to hire an individual in the Austin metroplex, working in the office 2-3 days per week, but a remote position is acceptable for the right candidate. Remote candidates will need to travel to the Austin, TX office at least one week per month.
