About the Role Base, the Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain developed by Coinbase, is seeking a Communications Specialist to spearhead our public relations and communications initiatives. This role aims to amplify Base's mission to onboard a billion users onto the onchain environment by driving media strategies, crafting narratives, and managing key stakeholder relationships. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of the crypto landscape, a robust media relations background, and a passion for storytelling within the blockchain domain. Key Responsibilities: Strategic Communications Leadership: Develop and implement public relations strategies aimed at enhancing Base's visibility across mainstream, crypto, and international media outlets. Media Relations: Cultivate and maintain strong connections with reporters, editors, and influencers within the blockchain, technology, and business sectors. Proactively pitch stories and manage inquiries from the media. Messaging and Narrative Development: Create compelling narratives that showcase Base's influence on the onchain economy, highlighting builder success stories, international initiatives, and innovative applications. Event Support: Lead public relations efforts for Base's involvement in significant events, including international tours, DevCon, and prominent industry conferences. Builder/Creator Amplification: Collaborate with Base’s ecosystem partners to spotlight builder success stories through effective media coverage. Crisis and Issues Management: Manage reactive communications to ensure consistent messaging and mitigate potential risks. Measurement and Reporting: Monitor earned media coverage, share of voice, and other key performance indicators to evaluate the effectiveness of public relations initiatives. Desired Qualifications: Experience: 6+ years in public relations, communications, or related fields, preferably within technology, blockchain, or fintech sectors. Media Savvy: Proven history of securing coverage in top-tier publications (such as Bloomberg, CNBC, TechCrunch) as well as crypto-focused outlets. Crypto Expertise: Strong knowledge of blockchain technology, Layer 2 solutions, and the broader cryptocurrency ecosystem. Storytelling Skills: Capability to translate complex technical ideas into clear and engaging narratives for varied audiences. Global Perspective: Experience with international media and cross-cultural communications is advantageous. Resilience: Able to navigate a fast-paced, high-pressure work environment while maintaining 24/7 availability when necessary. Additional Assets: Experience with decentralized applications (dApps) or Layer 2 scaling solutions. Established relationships with crypto and technology reporters. Job #: P74976 Pay Transparency Notice: Depending on your work location, the target annual base salary for this position is as follows: $140,080-$164,800 USD.
