Certified Nursing Assistant (Hospice Aide) Devoted Care Hospice | San Antonio & Surrounding Areas At Devoted Care Hospice, our mission is simple but profound: to ensure patients and families feel seen, supported, and cared for with dignity during one of life's most vulnerable seasons. We are seeking a compassionate Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) / Hospice Aide to join our interdisciplinary team and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve. The Hospice Aide is a valued paraprofessional member of the care team, providing hands-on personal care and emotional support to patients and families under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This role is essential in promoting comfort, safety, continuity of care, and quality of life at the end of life. Key Responsibilities Provide respectful, compassionate personal care, including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, feeding assistance, and mobility support. Promote comfort and dignity through proper positioning, skin care, range-of-motion exercises, and use of assistive devices as directed by the nurse. Observe, document, and promptly report changes in the patient's condition, environment, or care needs to the supervising nurse. Communicate professionally and empathetically with patients, families, caregivers, and members of the interdisciplinary team. Assist with light household tasks and simple meal preparation that support patient comfort and a safe home environment. Follow infection control, safety standards, and proper use of equipment and supplies. Complete accurate and timely documentation in accordance with agency policies and hospice regulations. Participate in quality improvement efforts and uphold Devoted Care Hospice's standards of professionalism and conduct. Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the Hospice Aide role. Qualifications & Requirements Meets state and federal certification requirements for Hospice Aides. At least 18 years of age Current CPR certification Ability to accurately document care provided in electronic medical record. Understanding of and commitment to the hospice philosophy of care Demonstrated compassion, empathy, and respect for patients and families at end of life Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and remain calm in emotionally sensitive situations Legally authorized to work in the United States Scope of Practice / Job Limitations The Hospice Aide may not perform tasks considered the practice of nursing under the Nurse Practice Act. This includes, but is not limited to: Administering medications Taking or transcribing physician orders Performing sterile or invasive procedures Physical Requirements Ability to lift, move, or assist patients up to ___ lbs using proper body mechanics and/or assistive devices Prolonged standing and walking during patient visits Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, and reach as needed for patient care Adequate visual and auditory acuity to observe patients and follow safety protocols Manual dexterity sufficient for patient care tasks and documentation Work Environment Patient homes with varying layouts, accessibility, and conditions Occasional clinical or office settings Frequent interaction with patients and families in emotionally sensitive situations Regular exposure to patients with serious or terminal illness Potential exposure to infectious diseases and environmental hazards Travel between patient locations required Must have reliable transportation and willingness to travel within a 60-mile radius of our office.
