Purpose of Role As the Lead of Microsoft Purview, you will create and manage an enterprise information protection and data governance system that minimizes data exposure while enabling compliant collaboration across Microsoft 365 and integrated platforms. This position involves designing and operationalizing scalable controls including classification, labeling, retention, Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Insider Risk, eDiscovery, and information boundaries, while translating legal, regulatory, HR, and cybersecurity requirements into actionable policies. You will drive cross-functional governance and ensure seamless integration of Purview into endpoints, identity, collaboration workloads, and key SaaS systems to achieve consistent protection and measurable compliance outcomes. Your Impact Define and implement the enterprise Purview strategy and multi-year roadmap, aligning governance priorities with business needs and risk postures. Develop and manage the enterprise data classification and labeling model, ensuring clarity on handling expectations and delivering a consistent end-user experience. Execute, refine, and manage DLP policies across endpoints and Microsoft 365 workloads (e.g., Exchange, Teams, SharePoint/OneDrive), balancing the need for protection with productivity. Establish and oversee retention and records governance to support defensible compliance and effective lifecycle management of content. Create and execute Insider Risk controls in partnership with HR, Legal, and Cybersecurity. Work with Legal and Compliance to operationalize eDiscovery processes, ensuring consistency and audit readiness. Set and enforce data boundaries and collaboration controls to minimize inappropriate sharing and insider risks. Enhance platform integrations and policy extensions to adjacent systems, ensuring consistent enforcement and monitoring. Manage monitoring, reporting, and governance rhythms, providing dashboards, metrics, control health evaluations, and compliance updates for executives. Oversee documentation and operational processes, guiding cross-functional teams to ensure consistent adoption and execution. Assist with budgeting and vendor/auditor interactions as needed, securing program sustainability. Qualifications Bachelor's degree required. 8-10 years of experience in information protection, data governance, security/compliance, or enterprise risk controls. Expertise in Microsoft Purview, especially in areas like classification, labeling, DLP, Insider Risk, retention, eDiscovery, and information boundaries. Ability to convert legal, regulatory, HR, and cybersecurity requirements into scalable policies and procedures. Strong influence and leadership abilities; capacity to drive governance decisions through collaboration with partners (HR, Legal, Cyber, IT, Compliance) without direct reports. Experience managing compliance programs and building sustainable operating models. Preferred certifications include CISSP, CIPP, and/or CIPM (or equivalent). Workplace Location Location: This role requires residency within commuting distance of our Baltimore HQ office. Work Schedule: Hybrid work schedule; 4 days in-office weekly. Travel: Minimal. Base Compensation $125,149.60-$156,437.00 USD. Most new hires start within this range with opportunities for growth over time, based on relevant skills and experiences.
