The Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana (RHI), named Best Rehabilitation Hospital in Indiana in 2024 and 2025, provides quality rehabilitation services to those facing life-changing injuries or illness. We specialize in the areas of brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury and complex medical conditions. RHI is the only Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Model System in the state of Indiana and one of only 16 in the U.S. Our campus on the west side of Indianapolis specializes in inpatient and outpatient evidence-based, patient-centered therapy for ages 15 and older. SUMMARY/PURPOSE OF JOB This position exists to provide and maintain quality in the daily operations of pharmaceutical services including timely and accurate dispensing of all drugs, pharmaceutical preparations, tube feedings, and intravenous solutions for the inpatient clinic at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana. PRIMARY JOB DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provides a thorough review of original drug orders to verify proper dosages and chemically physiological compatible drugs and the communication and resolution of any concerns prior to dispensing. Orders and maintains proper supply of drugs, chemicals and other pharmaceutical stock with records maintained on all prescriptions and controlled substances as required by Federal and State laws and ensures proper storage to include refrigeration and security. This will provide a double check system to ensure that correct medications are in their correct bin in Pyxis. Compounds and dispenses medications, intravenous solutions, tube feedings and pharmaceutical preparations accurately for inpatients and outpatients in accordance with department standards, checking Cerner charges for accuracy. Other duties as assigned PERIPHERAL JOB DUTIES Performs monthly area or nursing unit inspections as outlined by regulatory and accrediting agencies as assigned if working in the inpatient pharmacy. Performs meds to beds service patients discharging and would like retail pharmacy to fill medications. QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES The primary challenge of this position is in maintaining current knowledge and understanding of the vast array of new and constantly changing drugs, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals to adequately service an innovative medical staff providing care. The Pharmacist must continually update his/her understanding of the composition and properties of drugs, their manufacturers and the history of their users. Good communication skills are required to present data and information to others. Bilingual capability (Spanish/English) strongly preferred. EXPERIENCE Successful completion of pharmacy externships in a computerized environment or pharmacy experience with computerized commercial pharmacy or hospital is required. EDUCATION This position requires a Pharm D. Degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy. This position requires licensure as a Registered Pharmacist in the state of Indiana and must be in good standing with the Indiana Board of Pharmacy.
