Position Overview: This role involves supervising and providing care within the Medical ICU. You will evaluate nursing interventions by coordinating, delegating, and supervising care provided by our incredible healthcare team. As a leader, you will assess staff strengths and weaknesses, offering guidance and facilitating problem resolution in collaboration with unit leadership. Your contributions will be crucial in maintaining high-quality patient care. Key Responsibilities: Deliver direct, hands-on care for critically ill or injured patients in both pre-operative and post-operative settings. Assess risks and benefits of proposed medical interventions while rendering life-saving treatment in emergencies. Organize, plan, and supervise coordinated patient care within the unit. Support and evaluate departmental staff, promoting their professional growth. Encourage adherence to nursing protocols and clinical practice guidelines. Manage conflict and collaborate with unit leadership as needed. Enhance patient quality, safety, and overall experience through collaboration with leadership. Ensure effective scheduling and resource allocation for smooth daily clinical operations. Adapt communication and care approaches to individual patient needs. Essential Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited nursing school; a BSN is required for Ochsner Magnet Facilities. 1 year of relevant RN experience or 2 years as an LPN in an acute care setting. Current RN license in the practice state and BLS certification from the American Heart Association. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Exceptional assessment skills to detect subtle changes in patient conditions. Ability to provide effective patient and family education. Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medication management. Skills in end-of-life discussions and ethical decision-making. Self-directed with excellent organizational and time management skills. Proficiency in computer applications and data management. Effective communication skills to engage with various stakeholders. Physical Requirements: This position requires medium work, involving lifting and moving objects, with potential exposure to blood, body fluids, and hazardous materials.
