Job Type Full-time Description SUMMARY: The Dentist shall be responsible for the overall dental management and activities of patients. Collaborates with the Chief of Dental and Chief Medical Officer on the overall function of the Dental Department. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: All duties are subject to accommodation in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). • Shall diagnose and treat all patients presenting for care with malfunctions of the teeth and gums related to oral structures. • Examines patients to determine nature of condition, utilizing x-rays, dental instruments, and other diagnostic tools. • Provides preventive dental services to patients. • Responsible for all follow-up care and referrals required for the patients receiving dental services. • Follows all guidelines outlined in the Dental Infection Control Protocol Book and will participate in any SWCHC Infection Control Committee meeting as required. • Serves as a consultant to all Dental Department staff; including faculty and students at the University of Bridgeport FONES School of Dental Hygiene while they are on clinical rotation at SWCHC • Follows procedures and policies outlined in the Dental Department's Standards of Clinical Practice Book. • Participates in staff meetings; quality assurance programs; case conferences and all meetings as required. • Other related duties as assigned. This position requires the manual dexterity sufficient to operate phones, computers, and other office equipment. The position requires the physical ability to kneel, bend and perform light lifting. This person must have the ability to write and speak clearly using the English language to convey information and be able to hear at normal speaking levels both in person and over the telephone. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Generally, the working conditions are good with little or no exposure to extremes in health, safety hazards and/or hazardous materials. This person must have the ability to travel as required to work with staff. Requirements QUALIFICIATIONS Graduate from an accredited Dental School (DDS/DMD) • Experience with Electronic Health Records • CPR/BLS Certified • Strong interpersonal and customer service orientation skills • Excellent diagnostic and judgment-making skills Education and/or Experience • Currently licensed to practice dentistry in the State of Connecticut • An interest or experience in treating undeserved patient populations.
