Job Description

Camp Leader Position Croydon Creek Nature Center is looking for creative and energetic camp leaders to work with children and teens ages 514 for a summer filled with time spent outdoors in nature. This position offers the opportunity to build communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity skills that are essential for success in today's world. Our goal is to provide safe, fun, and educational outdoor nature experiences for all ages through quality leadership and programming in a safe and pleasant environment. We are looking for motivated camp leaders who are interested in helping us continue to achieve these goals. Essential Job Functions Organizes and co-instructs activities in nature-based summer camps Spends the majority of time outdoors in nature with children ages 514 Handles reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates used in programming (with training) Maintains control and supervision over participants involved in activities they are leading Ensures that safety precautions are observed at all times during structured activities, trips, and free play Remains energetic and active and is innovative when participants are idle, restless, or unwilling to participate Handles responsibilities competently and thoroughly and lends assistance as needed Serves as a positive role model for campers at all times Ensures good public relations and responsiveness to participants and the citizens of Rockville Notifies the lead naturalist of any unusual situations involving injuries, accidents, or emergencies with participants or staff Qualifications Must be at least 17 years of age and have experience working with youth ages 514. Candidates must possess strong communication skills, the ability to exercise independent judgment, and the ability to maintain group interest in activities. CPR/AED/First Aid certification is required or must be obtained (training provided at no cost, if needed). A valid driver's license is preferred. Experience Experience working with children is required. Education High school graduate preferred; some college preferred. Applicants 21 years of age or older are preferred.
