About Our OR Transition to Practice Program: We have launched a comprehensive program designed for novice operating room nurses, embodying Hartford Healthcare's core values of excellence, safety, caring, and integrity. This program offers a blended approach to ensure you gain the competencies necessary for high-quality, safe patient care. The OR Transition to Practice Program is open to both new graduate registered nurses and experienced nurses without previous OR experience. This 12-month program is structured in two phases: Introduction to Perioperative Nursing: In the first 3 months, immerse yourself in evidence-based learning through AORN Periop 101, classroom sessions, simulations, and clinical experiences to master essential perioperative nurse competencies and learn the scrub nurse role. You will complete your Periop 101 final exam at the end of this phase. Clinical Orientation: The following 9 months will focus on mastering unit-based nursing competencies and the circulating nurse role across various surgical specialties, including general, colorectal, gynecology, robotics, and more. You will also engage in professional practice and development activities. Your orientation schedule will primarily be Monday through Friday, 6:30 am to 3:00 pm, with opportunities for evening, night, and weekend shifts towards the end of the orientation. Throughout the program, you will receive mentorship from unit-based preceptors, management, and Nursing Professional Development team members, ensuring you are supported and on the path to success. As an OR Nurse, you will: Provide care before, during, and post-surgery, ensuring patient safety and comfort. Take on roles such as Scrub Nurse, assisting the surgical team in maintaining a sterile environment and handling surgical instruments. Perform as a Circulating Nurse, managing the overall operating room environment, ensuring all tools and supplies are available, and maintaining accurate documentation throughout surgeries. Qualifications: Current nursing license in Connecticut required prior to your start date. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is needed at the time of hire. Preferred exposure to perioperative nursing through experiences such as internships or employment in perioperative services. Application Process: Submit your online application.
