The Tucson Fire Fleet Management Division is proud to be certified as an ASE Blue Seal Repair Facility. The Emergency Vehicle Technician is part of this team dedicated to providing service solutions that exceed our customers' expectations. With a specialized fleet of emergency response vehicles, the Tucson Fire Department provides the latest technologies, training, and industry certification opportunities to keep the fleet management team and the fleet at the forefront of the industry. This position performs preventive maintenance and repairs on Class 3 or higher vehicles, or construction equipment, or mining equipment and requires the ability to work in a busy environment, on-call on a rotating schedule, weekends and holidays as needed. The position requires a City of Tucson Forklift Operator certification along with continued education and renewal, ability to read, write, communicate, and follow oral and written instructions in the English language, and have a rollaway toolbox with a full set of tools required to perform journey level maintenance and repairs on Class 3 - 8 vehicles. The Emergency Vehicle Technician classification is included in a skill-based pay plan which provides compensation for achieving and maintaining 28 ASE and EVT certifications required for this position as listed below. • ASE: Master Automotive Technician (A1 - A9) • ASE: Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician (T1 - T8) • EVT: Master Fire Apparatus Technician (F1 - F6) • EVT: Master Ambulance Technician (E0 - E4) Employees in this classification are required to progress through the levels of certification in a consecutive manner. ABOUT THIS JOB Position Specific Summary Performs preventive maintenance, troubleshoots, repairs, rebuilds, and modifies emergency vehicles and equipment. Work is performed under the Fleet Services Supervisor. This position does not supervise. Duties and Responsibilities This classification may include any of the listed duties, knowledge, skills, or other characteristics. Performs routine preventative maintenance and inspections on emergency vehicles and equipment. Performs troubleshooting and diagnoses electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and computerized vehicle components. Maintains records of equipment repairs, replacements, and services. Conducts road tests to evaluate vehicle performance and identify issues. Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: 6 months post high school Work Experience: Four (4) years of relevant experience License Requirements: Valid and unrestricted Arizona Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) Preferred Qualifications: Section 609 Air Conditioning Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling certification within 30 days of hire.Strong background in 12-volt electrical systems, multiplex systems, Class 3-8 brake systems, diesel engines, automatic transmission, Hydraulic systems, pneumatic, A/C systems, welding and fabrication experience, 10 years of experience with ASE Master Auto Technician, ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician, Master EVT Ambulance Technician, and Master EVT Apparatus Technician.
