Now Hiring: Senior Maritime Engineering Director Location: Rhode Island (On?Site at Shipyard) Company: NSC Staffing Send Resumes to: NSC Staffing is seeking a highly experienced Senior Maritime Engineering Director to lead all engineering functions across shipyard operations. This executive?level position oversees Structural, Piping, Electrical, Mechanical, and design coordination activities while ensuring full regulatory and contractual compliance. The Director will drive engineering excellence, schedule adherence, and technical integrity across all vessel construction programs. This role reports directly to the Vice President of Operations. Position Overview The Senior Maritime Engineering Director is responsible for managing multidisciplinary engineering teams, ensuring timely delivery of engineering outputs, and coordinating technical deliverables with shipyard production activities. The ideal candidate is a seasoned engineering leader with deep shipbuilding experience and strong knowledge of Classification Society requirements. Key Responsibilities Engineering Leadership & Oversight Lead Structural, Piping, Electrical, Mechanical, and integrated engineering teams. Establish engineering standards, workflows, and best practices. Ensure all engineering outputs comply with ABS, USCG, DNV, and applicable regulatory bodies. Project Coordination Serve as the primary interface between naval architects, design subcontractors, and internal production teams. Integrate engineering deliverables with production planning and project milestones. Review and approve calculations, specifications, drawings, and engineering packages. Scheduling & Compliance Track engineering progress against schedule and budget requirements. Identify schedule or technical challenges and implement corrective actions. Ensure contractual, QA/QC, and documentation requirements are met. Technical Problem-Solving Resolve complex engineering issues across all vessel systems. Provide guidance during construction, outfitting, installation, testing, and commissioning. Drive continuous improvement throughout the engineering department. Stakeholder Communication Collaborate with senior management, project managers, and customers. Deliver detailed technical reports, progress updates, and risk assessments. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, or Structural Engineering (Master's preferred). Minimum 10+ years of maritime or shipbuilding engineering experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role. Proficiency in AutoCAD, ShipConstructor, MS Project, Primavera, and engineering integration tools. Strong understanding of vessel systems integration and regulatory compliance. Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Preferred Attributes Professional Engineer (PE) license highly desirable. Experience with ABS, DNV, Lloyd's Register rules. Proven experience managing large?scale new construction or major repair engineering programs. Physical Demands Correctable vision to 20/40; color?blindness test required. Ability to pass a pulmonary function exam for respirator?required areas. Ability to stand, walk, kneel, climb, stoop, and work overhead. Must be comfortable working in confined spaces and maneuvering through 18" x 23" openings. Ability to work at heights exceeding 50 feet when required. Must be able to lift and carry tools/equipment up to 75 lbs. Work Demands Required PPE includes respirator, hardhat, goggles, safety shoes, harness, gloves, etc. Must report all safety incidents and equipment issues promptly. Work takes place both indoors and outdoors in shipyard environments. Must maintain pace consistent with engineering and production deadlines. Why NSC Staffing?
