Summary NIST's Operations and Maintenance Group is seeking several electrical workers to support the safe and reliable operation of NIST facilities. These positions help maintain critical building infrastructure by installing, repairing, and troubleshooting electrical systems and fixtures across laboratories, offices, and support spaces. The work directly supports NIST's scientific mission by ensuring facilities remain functional, safe, and compliant with electrical codes and standards. Duties Help In this position, you will: - Assist journeymen electricians in electrical installation, maintenance, and repair work by securing panel boards to walls and ceilings to accommodate raceways and conduits, drawing wires through walls and ceilings, soldering wire connections, attaching fixture mounting brackets and fixtures, connecting wires and outlets, installing lights and switches, replacing defective outlets, and other similar types of duties. - Read and interpret schematics and one-line drawings. The applicant's overall background of experience, education, and training must clearly demonstrate the ability to assist journeymen electricians in electrical installation, maintenance and repair of electrical items such as wire connections, attaching fixture, connecting wires and outlets, installing lights and switches, replacing defective outlets, and other similar types of duties without more than normal supervision. Applicants must meet the screen out elements and achieve an overall score of at least fifty (50%) or higher Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
