This position will be a full-time night shift position. Schedule is as follows: Sunday-Tuesday 6pm-6am; Wednesday 6pm-12am. At Houston Methodist, the Senior Security Officer position is responsible for assigned activities of the Public Safety/Security department. In addition to performing the duties and functions of Security Officer, this position assists with the coordination of shift security operations in the absence of the Public Safety Supervisor or Coordinator. The Senior Security Officer position supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.FLSA STATUS Non-exempt QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION High School diploma or equivalent education (examples include: GED, verification of homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post-secondary education, etc.) ICS-Incident Command System 300/400 within 6 months of hire date EXPERIENCE Two years security of related field experience Healthcare experience preferred One year of Houston Methodist Public Safety experience preferred LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS Required State license: Secur-C or Secur-N and DL - Driver License - State Licensure - Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation_PSV Must obtain a Texas DL and IAHSS - Certified Security Officer-Basic/Advanced/Supervisor (IAHSS) - International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety_PSV and NVCRISIS - Nonviolent Crisis Intervention or Instructor (CPI) - Crisis Prevention Institute Preferred BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) SKILLS AND ABILITIES Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through ongoing skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially about activities impacting patient or employee safety or security Demonstrates the ability to interact with others in a way that gives them confidence in one's intentions and those of the organization Ability to use appropriate interpersonal styles and techniques to gain acceptance of ideas or plans; modifying one's own behavior to accommodate tasks, situations and individuals involved Demonstrates leadership qualities and critical thinking through self-direction, initiative, and effective interpersonal skills and oral/written communication skills Ability to identify and understand issues, problems and opportunities, comparing data from different sources to draw conclusions; using effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions; taking action that is consistent with available facts, constraints and probable consequences Extensive knowledge of regulatory and accreditation agency requirements that impact department; stays abreast of industry changes Demonstrates highly effective communication skills-strong written communications and platform presentation abilities Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in the workplace Capable of leading teams/facilitating groups, building consensus and garnering highest confidence in professionalism and work product by senior leadership Ability to work under pressure and balance many competing priorities; highly responsive and solution/action oriented Proficiency in spreadsheet, word processing, and presentation software Maintains a positive and supportive attitude and demeanor Professional handling of exposure to confidential/sensitive information ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Mentors and trains others. Acts as a Field Training Officer (FTO) while serving as a part of the Subject Matter Expert (SME) Team. Assists with the activities of assigned personnel; conducts site post inspections; conducts roll call to ensure assigned personnel are available, ready and properly prepared for duty; provides briefings for relieving supervisory personnel. Utilizes clear communication using professional telephone etiquette. Communicates effectively with management and coworkers on tasks, processes and procedures. Role models excellent, clear and professional communication skills to achieve mutual understanding and problem resolution, while providing the highest quality service during every patient, visitor and staff encounter. Actively responds to requests for personal security coverage, assistance with directions, information and guidance. SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Secures premises and individuals by patrolling facilities; monitoring surveillance cameras and access points to permit authorized entry, ensuring all Security Officers do the same, as needed. Responds to all radio dispatches as necessary, answers calls and complaints and assesses and makes recommendations as needed for all emergent situations. Leads and maintains high customer satisfaction while providing the highest level of safety and security to patients, visitors, staff and assets. QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Accurately communicates and/or generates and completes reports by recording occurrences, information, observations, surveillance activities and conducting witness interviews. Maintains a safe environment by responding immediately to all emergency codes and takes appropriate actions; following all policies and procedures for safety, hazardous material, emergency preparedness and HIPAA. FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Prevents loss and damage by reporting irregularities, informing violators of policy and procedures. Conducts equipment inventory checks and maintenance as delegated. Utilizes and maintains HM and department equipment according to manufacturer specifications. Reports failures in equipment assigned to unit. Utilizes resources with cost effectiveness and value creation in mind. Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks, assisting coworkers as needed. GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Promotes individual and professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization. Implements strategies and initiatives that support Public Safety Operations which include Workplace Violence, Physical Security and Technology. Also actively participates in Shared Governance and Morale Committee. Supports hospital and department goals and offers innovative solutions through participation in department projects.Ensures own career discussions occur with appropriate management. Completes and updates the My Development Plan (MDP) on an ongoing basis.
