JOB DESCRIPTION: This position will assist in patient care throughout the Pre-op and PACU units. Is responsible for the safe transport of patients via wheel chair or stretcher, dispatch services and appropriate documentation of services. Provides the services of an observer for any patient who has been assessed to require constant observation to maximize his/her safety. Performs general receptionist and clerical duties. Carries out basic patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse in accordance with the standards of care. Demonstrates the appropriate skills based on level of training and scope of practice. Age groups may include the adult and adolescent. QUALIFICATIONS: BLS certified Current Nursing Assistant certification Minimum of two years' patient care experience Cooperative work attitude toward and with co-employees, management, patients, visitors and physicians, and ability to effectively communicate with others. High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent RESPONSIBILITIES: Collect patient's belongings and deliver to patient rooms/bedside Demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity to patient and family rights, as identified by the organization. Understands the protocol for responding to emergency situations and the importance of remaining calm in this situation. Participates in staff meetings, in-service programs and educational requirements as appropriate. Assist with the stocking of supplies in the peri-anesthesia and peri-operative areas. Promotes a constructive/positive atmosphere within the work area by demonstrating the ability to cooperate with and assist fellow health team members as well as patients and families. Seeks guidance and assistance from the assigned nurse when knowledge base and skill level is in question. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of universal precaution, infection control and isolation procedures. At all time adheres to the Facility policies and procedures. Under the direction of the registered nurse, bladder scan/EKG/Accu-Checks Transfers, moves, and repositions patients. Removes linens from beds and stretchers after each patient use. Cleans/disinfects equipment after each patient use. Disinfects stretchers and reapplies linens after each patient use. Removes unclean beds and stretchers from unit. Replace units with clean stretchers. Assist with patient transfer to patient areas and discharge of patient to their vehicle Assist patients with ambulating/dressing/toileting Instruct patients on bedside exercise/incentive spirometer if needed WE OFFER: NO city wage tax FREE parking!
