Position Title: Law Enforcement Technician Job Posting Closing Date: 03/17 Provo City Police Department is hiring for a full-time law enforcement technician to provide administrative and technical support work in the police evidence room. This position is responsible for maintaining chain of custody and inventory controls for the police evidence room and quartermaster function. Pay Range: (G24) $23.10 - $31.84/Hr. For more information about benefits click here. What are the main duties? Receive, log, and secure all incoming property and evidence items. Verify accuracy by comparing evidence submissions with corresponding reports. Ensure all evidence is properly packaged, labeled, and documented. Maintain a legally defensible chain of custody and secure the evidence room at all times. Educate officers and staff on correct evidence packaging, sealing, and labeling procedures. Maintain manual and/or digital records for all evidence received, processed, transferred, and released. Determine lawful disposition of property, including destruction, release, or transfer, and prepare items for lab submission when required. Conduct or assist with regular evidence inventory checks, audits, and tracking of money received or disbursed. Perform quartermaster functions, including tracking, distributing, and collecting department-issued equipment. Coordinate equipment needs, ensure maintenance and minor repairs, and assist with special events or other assigned duties. What are the minimum requirements? Provo City will honor an equivalent combination of job-related education and experience. High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) Three years of major administrative support and/or inventory control experience, preferably in support of a law enforcement program or related field. Valid, lawful driver license International Association for Property and Evidence training on evidence room management required within first year of employment. IAPE Property and Evidence Specialist Certificate preferred. What is the selection process? Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening being held on March 18, 2026Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration. If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal.
