CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER POSITION INFORMATION The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a strategic advisor and the chief financial steward for the County. This executive leader provides both operational oversight and forward-looking financial guidance, ensuring the organization's long-term fiscal health and supporting high-quality public services for the community. Reporting directly to the County Administrator, the CFO plays a central role in shaping budget strategy, evaluating financial performance, advising senior leaders, and driving responsible, transparent financial practices across the organization. To view the full position profile, please use the link here: Lexington Co CFO Position Profile KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Financial Leadership & Strategy Serve as the primary financial spokesperson for the County. Provide strategic and tactical insight on budgeting, forecasting, cost-benefit analysis, and overall financial performance. Advise the County Administrator and Department Heads on accounting, budgeting, auditing, long?range planning, and emerging financial issues. Financial Operations Management Maintain the County's central accounting and financial systems in alignment with accepted governmental accounting principles. Direct payroll, accounts payable, cash flow management, and expenditure controls. Review weekly/monthly FILOT reports and monitor daily financial system activity. Budget & Reporting Lead preparation of the annual budget, including revenue estimates and expenditure reviews. Oversee development of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). Produce financial statements and various periodic financial reports. Review budget requests, amendments, and ongoing fiscal trends. Governance & Compliance Attend County Council and committee meetings to provide expert financial guidance. Ensure compliance with A?133 audit requirements, new GASB standards, grant reporting, and debt financing practices. Coordinate with bond counsel and financial advisors on debt-related matters. Special Projects & Other Duties Prepare G.O. Bond statements, general ledger information, and specialized reports as needed. Perform other related duties aligned with organizational needs. QUALIFCIATIONS Education & Experience Bachelor's degree from an accredited higher education institution is required for consideration. Seven (7) or more years of progressively responsible financial experience, including experience managing teams. Knowledge & Expertise Ideal candidates bring deep competency in: Governmental accounting and auditing standards Budget development and management Financial reporting and grants Debt financing and audits Microsoft Office and financial software systems Departmental procedures, policies, and regulatory standards Skills & Capabilities Strong administrative and organizational skills Clear and confident communicator-both written and verbal Customer service orientation and ability to support internal stakeholders Advanced analytical thinking and problem?solving Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines Public speaking comfort and professionalism Valid South Carolina Driver's License required. COMPENSATION The expected salary range at the time of hire will be between $117,341 - $146,000. The salary offered will be commensurate with experience within the approved pay band.
