Position Title: Director of Compliance and Safety Location: In Office located in either Nashville, TN, Charleston, SC or Raliegh, NC Reports to: SVP Operations Position Summary The Director of Compliance & Safety is responsible for leading and standardizing all transportation regulatory compliance, fleet safety, and OSHA workplace safety programs across a multi-state event rental operation. This role oversees compliance for a primarily non-CDL fleet while ensuring adherence to all applicable Non-CDL & CDL Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Department of Transportation (DOT), OSHA, and state-specific safety regulations. The Director will serve as the company's subject matter expert on transportation safety, warehouse safety, and regulatory compliance, partnering closely with Operations, Warehouse, Fleet, and Executive Leadership teams to mitigate risk, reduce incidents, and build a culture of accountability and safety excellence. This role requires both strategic oversight and hands-on execution. This is an In Office position, based in Raleigh, NC, Nashville, TN or Charlston, SC. Travel required. Key ResponsibilitiesDOT & OHSA Safety Guidelines Oversee compliance with all applicable FMCSA and DOT regulations, including those affecting CDL and non-CDL commercial motor vehicles. Ensure proper administration and auditing of: Driver Qualification Files Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) Medical certifications (as applicable) Hours of Service (where required) Vehicle inspection and maintenance records Drug & alcohol testing programs (as applicable) Develop standardized transportation compliance policies and SOPs across all states of operation. Monitor evolving federal and state transportation laws and ensure timely implementation of required changes. Lead preparation and response efforts for DOT audits, investigations, and roadside inspections. Establish fleet safety KPIs and performance tracking across all locations. Warehouse & Logistics Safety Lead OSHA compliance initiatives across warehouse, loading dock, and event production environments. Partner with third party compliance resources to develop and enforce safety procedures related to: Material handling Forklift and equipment operation Loading/unloading practices Fall protection Ergonomics and injury prevention Conduct routine multi-site safety audits and risk assessments. Perform root cause analysis for incidents, injuries, vehicle accidents, and near-miss events. Standardize safety training for warehouse and logistics teams across all states. Risk Management & Incident Reduction Drive measurable reductions in: Vehicle incidents OSHA recordable injuries Workers' compensation claims Compliance violations Partner with Insurance carriers and analyze incident data/loss trends to proactively identify systemic risks. Develop corrective action plans and accountability frameworks. Partner with HR and Operations leadership on safety performance management. Training & Leadership Implement company-wide DOT and OSHA safety training programs. Provide regular leadership reporting on safety metrics and compliance performance. Lead safety committee structure and establish consistent expectations across all markets. Promote a culture of proactive hazard identification and reporting. Multi-State Oversight Travel regularly to all company locations to ensure consistent execution of compliance standards. Conduct annual audits. Align safety programs with varying state-level regulatory requirements. Serve as the company's primary liaison with regulatory agencies when required. Qualifications Bachelor's degree preferred (Safety Management, Transportation, Logistics, Business, or related field) or equivalent experience. 4+ years of progressive experience in DOT compliance, fleet safety, and OSHA leadership. Strong knowledge of: FMCSA regulations Non-CDL commercial vehicle requirements OSHA warehouse and logistics safety standards Experience in warehouse logistics, distribution, construction or event production environments is strongly preferred. Familiar with insurance coverage lines for WC, GL and Auto. Proven success by reducing incident rates and improving compliance metrics. Experience managing safety across multiple states and locations. Strong audit, investigative, and root cause analysis skills. Ability to influence operational leaders and drive accountability.
