HR Coordinator The Department of Human Development and Quantitative Methodology in the College of Education is seeking an HR Coordinator to join our Business Office. The HR Coordinator supports the daily payroll and personnel needs of faculty, staff, graduate assistants, student employees, and departmental affiliates. This position is responsible for managing all aspects of HR and payroll functions across the full employment lifecycle, including, but not limited to, talent acquisition, hiring, payroll administration, and termination, in accordance with established policies, directives, and regulatory requirements. The role coordinates onboarding and offboarding processes for both domestic and international personnel, both paid and unpaid, in Workday and other UMD systems. The HR Coordinator serves as a key point of contact for employees and managers, collaborating with University Human Resources (UHR) and other campus experts to ensure timely HR and payroll resolution and provide accurate guidance regarding HR policies, procedures, benefits, compensation, training, and employment practices. The HR Coordinator proactively documents resolutions, guidance, and newly identified processes to build shared knowledge and support continuous improvement within the department and college. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and demonstrates strong task prioritization skills, and maintains strict confidentiality of all HR-related information. They possess strong critical thinking abilities, enabling them to work independently while also performing effectively under the guidance of the Business Manager and Director. Physical Demands: This is an office position with a regular/standard work schedule. Travel within the campus and limited off-campus may be required. Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: One (1) year of professional human resources experience. Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures, and federal, state, and other applicable human resources related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances. Knowledge of best practices in organization, administration, and customer service. Knowledge of proper protocol in handling confidential information. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite products. Skill in analytical and strategic thinking. Skill in oral and written communication. Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Ability to analyze situations and determine the best recourse for response.
