Job Details Location: Portsmouth, VA 23707 — travel nursing job in Portsmouth, Virginia Unit: 24-bed Medical-Surgical unit (4 North) — inpatient Med/Surg Assignment Type: Travel Nurse (Travel RN, travel nursing assignment) Duration: 13 weeks (2/23/2026 – 5/23/2026) Shift: 12-hour nights — night shift travel nurse, every other weekend and every other holiday Hours per Week: 36 Estimated Weekly Pay: $1910-$2010/week Support Staff: Unit Secretary, Patient Care Technicians, Phlebotomist, Transporters — strong clinical support Job Requirements (Qualifications) Minimum 2 years of recent Medical-Surgical RN experience (Med/Surg RN, acute care) Previous travel nursing experience required (Travel Nurse, Travel RN) Current RN license in Virginia or a valid compact state RN license (required) BLS certification (must obtain prior to direct patient care if not already held) Ability to pass a dysrhythmia exam at orientation (study guide provided) No local candidates accepted — travel candidates only Responsibilities (Clinical Duties) Deliver comprehensive patient care using the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation Perform and document thorough patient assessments and maintain up-to-date care plans for med/surg patients Safely administer medications and IV therapies in accordance with facility policies Care for patients with CHF, renal failure, COPD, seizures, sepsis, and other common med/surg diagnoses Manage and monitor lines, drains, and devices including Foley catheters, PIVs, PICCs, Mediports, JP drains, wound vacs, chest tubes, and PCA pumps Administer and monitor non-titrating cardiac drips and titrate heparin drips per protocol Utilize oxygen delivery systems (nasal cannula, Salter mask, high-flow systems) Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (physicians, case management, respiratory therapy, PT/OT, social work) to coordinate patient care and discharge planning Serve as a patient advocate, support patient education, and participate in quality improvement initiatives Support and educate patients and families throughout their hospital stay to improve outcomes and patient satisfaction Why Apply Opportunity to grow clinical skills in an acute care med/surg setting Structured orientation with study guide for dysrhythmia exam and clinical support team on nights Experience a scenic area of southeastern Virginia while advancing your travel nursing career Ready to take this travel nursing opportunity?
