Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Med Surg Discipline: RN Start Date: 03/09/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, nights Employment Type: Travel Required Certifications BLS Certification RN ID/Compact license Shift Notes Nights 3x12 Unit Overview Department: MedSurg Unit: 5th Floor of Beds: 42 Nurse:Patient Ratios: 1:5 (occasionally 1:6, very rarely) Required Certifications: BLS, EKG certification Patient Population & Common Diagnoses Ortho/Surgeries: Total joints, hip fractures, spine surgeries (lumbar & cervical) Urology: Procedures including CBI General Surgery: Cholecystectomies, bowel resections, complicated mastectomies GYN Overflow: Total hysterectomies Medical Overflow: COPD, sepsis, infections, some behavioral health Required Experience & Skills Minimum 2 years MedSurg experience EPIC experience required Ability to read and interpret telemetry Willingness to take students or precept travelers (should note during interview) Drips & Monitoring RN Titration: Not required Common Drips: Heparin, PCA, morphine (set rate) Tele/Monitor Techs: Virtual Tele techs; RNs read and interpret strips Equipment Managed by RT: CPAP, BiPAP, high flow Current Tele System: SpaceLab → transitioning to Philips by end of June Unit Staffing & Roles Charge Nurse: Present each shift; rarely takes patients ADT Nurse: Day shift assists with admits, discharges, tasking Patient Care Techs: 1:8 ratio Shifts & Scheduling Shift Length: 12 hours (7:00 – 19:30) Scheduling: No block scheduling; travelers scheduled by unit scheduler Weekend Requirement: 5 shifts in 6 weeks (travelers fill gaps) Holiday Requirement: As needed Call/Standby: N/A Floating & Facility Coverage Float between MedSurg 5, MedSurg 6, and 9-bed overflow unit May float to other like units in system: Boise Medical Center – 8 miles away Nampa Medical Center – 8 miles away ER holds or 1:1 assignments Dress Code Scrubs: Any color, must be clean & professional Orientation General Orientation: 3 days including EPIC training & educator meeting Online Modules: Prior to start Unit Orientation: 2 shifts with a preceptor About Talent4Health A leader and innovator, offering comprehensive talent solutions for the healthcare industry across the nation.
