Old Dominion Freight Line is eager to welcome skilled and dedicated Class A CDL Intermodal Drivers to our team. As a vital part of our family-oriented culture, you will ensure the safe and efficient pick-up and delivery of intermodal containers. You will operate between customer locations, ocean ports, and rail heads, covering local, regional, or national routes. Your communication skills will be essential as you will need to keep dispatch informed of any factors affecting delivery schedules, such as delays or mechanical issues. With an average annual pay of $107,000 and access to our Tuition Reimbursement Program for recent trucking school graduates, this role provides an exceptional career path in the transportation industry. Our Intermodal Drivers help us fulfill our commitment to delivering freight accurately and on time. Key Responsibilities: Safely operate vehicles in accordance with DOT regulations regarding driving, hours of service, and vehicle maintenance. Follow dispatch instructions and complete all required documentation. Deliver containers efficiently and securely. Utilize technology such as tablets and phones for internal monitoring and communication. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Valid commercial driver's license with hazmat, tanker, and doubles endorsements. Possessing a Transportation Worker's Identification Card (TWIC) may be required. Acceptable motor vehicle record and 12 months previous tractor-trailer driving experience, or graduate from an approved truck driving school. Competent in using handheld technology for job functions. Keen understanding of vehicle safety and control systems. Knowledge of DOT regulations on safety, inspection, and maintenance. Ability to meet medical standards set by the U.S. Department of Transportation and pass drug and alcohol tests. Flexibility for around-the-clock trips and capability to be away from home for extended periods. At least 22 years of age. Physical Demands: Ability to sit for extended periods while driving. Capability to stand and walk for significant portions of the day. Must perform bending and stooping to handle freight and inspections. Capable of climbing into and out of the vehicle's cab, as well as using steps and handles appropriately. Occasional lifting, pushing, and pulling of freight may be required. Must reach for controls at waist and below waist level. Must have proficiency in physical tasks such as installation of tire chains and securing cargo. Strong cognitive skills for safety awareness and navigation. Must be proficient in shifting manual transmissions and operating foot pedals. Read, write and communicate effectively in English. Regular attendance is crucial. Work Environment: Employees may encounter various work conditions including loading/unloading freight, enclosed vehicle driving, and exposure to diverse weather and noise levels. Work schedule may include weekdays and weekends, with shifts subject to change based on job requirements.
