General Summary: The Senior Underwriting Specialist will demonstrate expert risk evaluation, selection, and retention of profitable business within their authority limits. Collaboration with sales teams, brokers, and internal partners is essential. This specialist will also train, develop, and mentor junior underwriters while guiding and influencing others to support changes and drive profitable results. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Work closely with sales and service partners to customize products and plans that meet customer needs. Evaluate and select risks to ensure profitable acquisition of new cases and successful retention of in-force cases. Conduct comprehensive risk assessments on all cases, adhering to business guidelines and identifying trends with actionable recommendations. Contribute to the creation of policies and procedures that support product development initiatives. Show a thorough understanding of the Company's product offerings, sales processes, and market dynamics. Provide accurate and timely service while building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Act as a technical resource for less experienced underwriters, offering constructive feedback on case decisions and promoting their development. Mentor and coach team members, giving valuable performance insights to management. Job Specifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience Proven proficiency at a Senior Underwriter level Extensive understanding of product provisions, plan designs, pricing, and benefits Advanced technical expertise in risk selection Solid grasp of company objectives regarding revenue and expenses Thorough understanding of the sales process and current market trends Strong mentoring and coaching skills Exceptional problem-solving abilities Outstanding analytical thinking and reasoning skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Effective organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities Strong persuasion and negotiation skills Demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team A strong commitment to quality and accountability This position is based at our headquarters in Chattanooga, TN. The base salary range for this position is $63,500.00 to $120,000.00. Actual pay will depend on skills, geographical location, and experience.
