Job Description

The energy industry is transforming, particularly in transmission grids, to meet ambitious decarbonization and energy transition goals. Technologies like underground and subsea cables are pivotal in enabling renewable energy initiatives, including offshore wind, green hydrogen, and extensive interconnectors. We are seeking a skilled Transmission Protection and Control Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will collaborate with both regional and global transmission and studies teams to lead various projects while assisting in business development and proposal efforts for diverse clients, including renewable developers, transmission owners/developers, and utilities. The ideal candidate will have significant experience and expertise in protection and control systems for transmission and substations, extending from planning and protection philosophy phases to detailed design studies. Proficiency with software like ASPEN OneLiner is essential, and familiarity with protection standards for renewable energy connections and HVDC systems is highly desirable. Key Responsibilities: Demonstrate advanced knowledge of protection relaying functions such as line protection, transformer protection, breaker failure, capacitor bank protection, communication-based schemes, and differential protection. Conduct protection and control studies at the conceptual planning phase, establishing protection philosophies, basis of design, and fault studies. Perform P&C studies including protection coordination, PT/CT sizing, time-current characteristic curves, and relay coordination. Understand relevant P&C standards such as IEEE and NERC. Utilize ASPEN OneLiner, PSS CAPE, or comparable software efficiently. Contribute significantly to project delivery, ensuring completion within set timeframes and budgets. Engage collaboratively with team members across North America and internationally. Interact with a variety of clients, including renewable developers and utilities, as well as ISOs/RTOs. Participate actively in technical committees like IEEE or CIGRE to stay at the forefront of industry advancements. Qualifications: A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution. At least 7 years of experience in protection and control related projects. Proficiency in protection studies software such as ASPEN OneLiner and PSS CAPE. Knowledge of industry standards including IEC, IEEE, and CIGRE. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a results-driven mindset. A team player with excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation abilities. Willingness to travel within North America as needed. Preferred Additional Qualifications: Experience with other power systems software such as PSCAD and PSS/E. Familiarity with offshore wind systems and HVDC technology. A Professional Engineer (PE or PEng) License is advantageous. We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace.
